My over five years experience in the finance industry, coupled with my passion to excel in education, gives me an opportunity of being considered as a worthwhile candidate for this scholarship. I am qualified in various degree courses and my results in respective areas, I believe, will convince the panel of judges to consider me as a serious contender for Business Leader Postgraduate Scholarship. A career in finance profession will enable me to accomplish my life long dream of having polished skills that will help to transform the chosen industry and contribute positively and progressively to the welfare of the society. The first degree GPA of 4.7/5 will be a good opening of focusing on my career in the future. Education has formed an important aspect of my life. I managed to get a highly sought after scholarship as I commenced by first education at Moscow State Technical University which is named after Bauban. This was back in the year 1999. High demand and competition at the entrance examination did not give me a chance to join the intended faculty of Information Systems. However, this did not dampen my spirits. I was focused to accomplish my goals in life. After completing the first three semesters with distinction and recognition, I was granted permission to be transferred to the desired faculty. That was a new challenge, and it came with a mixture of happiness and anxiety. The transfer caused a backlog of difference-in-program units of study which I had not studied for the three semesters I had been in a different faculty. There were as many as ten unit subjects that I had to complete on top of what was currently going on. This was a big challenge, but I overcame it with a determined spirit. During the following two years of study, I had not only eliminated the backlog and passed all the exams, but I had passed nearly all of them with distinction. My personal achievements were beyond University. I attended numerous courses in English language, which was propelled with my desire to work abroad. Commencing from my third year of study, I managed to jump on and off multiple part of time positions, a majority of them being in Information Technology domain. I joined Deutsche Bank after my graduation from the university in the year 2005. That played an important part in transforming my life vision. B2 The passion to change my perception about life, and how to approach life problems, enhanced my desire to pursue finance. My love for books and desire for new challenges has opened up my mind creative thinking and focused approach to issues of life. Paul Wilmott’s Quantitative Finance, Richard Harris and Robert Sollis’ Applied time series modeling and forecasting, assisted me in getting a closer grip on time series. It is worth mentioning that mathematics has always been my strong side in education hence the strong interest in time series. Realizing my deficiency in the finance section that denied me a chance to serve in a position that I so much envied, I have set my heart to pursuing a Master’s degree in finance. I have always been a go-getter, and the desire to be accomplished in the finance field is something I will not relent till I achieve it. I have always adored pursuing a career in finance, and I believe in being comfortable where my heart and mind are settled. My passion to pursue a finance related career is inborn. I have realized that I do not feel excited in the Informational Technology field as I am when I handle something in the finance field. I believe doing something that one has the passion for is the best thing that can ever happen to a person. Satisfaction and general contentment in life comes from a settled mind, and I desire to achieve. It will be very exciting for me to pursue something that I really love in life. Finance provides an avenue for me to express myself in the most appropriate way possible. I, therefore, love to be supported by the committee for selection of the scholarship. It will be an honor to be given a chance to pursue something that will make me help this country tremendously. The hardships that I have gone through while pursuing education, have made me to be a better person, who can survive in a cosmopolitan and dynamic environment. B3 I joined Application Management Team in Fixed Income area and plunged into a very exciting and challenging environment. This was my first position that demanded so many skills all at once. This is a time where I truly learnt how to work under stress, to bridge-edged precise attention to details, to be responsible and accountable. Working in close cooperation with trading floor, we were remotely looking for a huge F1 trading platform, Trade Gate, in three geographically spread locations of Frankfurt, London and New York and couple comparatively minor branches as Tokyo, Singapore and Australia. Being responsible for availability of the system, we worked on automatically bringing up and down various system components spread over a large amount of servers using complex server scripting environment; deploying applications on demand and adopting the Information Technology environment for business needs; supporting various middleware such as Tibco and Perforce. Using a cutting edge monitoring system, we were a central technical point of contact for trading floors world-wide and back-wide. After being employed for a few months, I gained passionate interest in financial matters. I acknowledging my incompetence in the area, I enrolled for several financial courses both part-time and off work. At the place of work, the main issue was financial accounting and, as part of it, I was accorded a certain minimum training which arose in me more desire for more. My quest to read widely was ignited. I engaged in constructive conversation concerning trading floor with my colleagues whenever possible at the slightest chance. I insidiously looked for information and knowledge in financial matters regardless of location. I searched for relevant books and ardently read them one by one. I wanted to gain knowledge in other faculties beyond the IT faculty that was so dominant in my life. Within a period of two years, my awareness expanded dramatically, and I had the determination to stretch my learning curve further and further. Topics that enchanted me included technical and fundamental analysis, bonds and coupons, settlement and Yield to Maturity, tenors and swaps, forwards and yield curves. These topics did not sound strange to me anymore. The interest that had simply started, turned into passion, and I started thinking about becoming a trader in securities. I engrossed fully into the subject and found that my passion was not being satisfied. I wanted more exposure and more fundamental approach. I wanted to move closer to finance field inclined towards human resource. The possibility was not excluded per se, but it was hinted that the move would not be easy. My hope was not crushed. I consistently worked hard taking advantage of courses and material that the bank could offer. At the same, I was actively involved in a high profile automation project for a major web-trading platform, Autobahn F1. The project was an enormous success. It was the nature of the company to seek out new places of operation, and I was fully involved. As a result, I was promoted and appointed to a more challenging position in Deutsche Australia Limited. Despite the radical shift in culture, I went ahead to excel in my new setting. While working in a global team in cooperation with Moscow, I focused in deploying best techniques utilized in Europe to Asia-Pacific region. I went for wider latitude and received more creative freedom. Concurrently, my devotion to fundamental knowledge in finance became pronounced. In 2009, possibly in the light of GFC, the bank started transferring Application Management division onto an onshore company in India. Those were not the best times. The industry started to decline. The bank was undergoing turbulent and constant reorganization, and as a result of this I moved to Feature and option area. This made my knowledge to widen further. I got a pay rise and promotion in Australia. While I stayed in IT department, I was determined to convince HR to transfer me to Finance section. All my efforts fell on deaf years since I had no enough training in finance. I, therefore, realized I needed further training in finance. I was rendered redundant after becoming a permanent resident in December 2010. I had deferred commencement to the 1st semester 2012, after my application in for the first semester in 2011 owing to meager family savings that could only cover house rent and other small daily expenses. This has made it necessary for me to apply for Business Leader Postgraduate Scholarship, and I hope to be considered due to my financial circumstances that are beyond me; more importantly, is that I have a passion for finance, and I would like my dream to come true.
