Such emergencies can disrupt or shut down the operations at the workplace or in some case lead to physical and environmental damage. An emergency might stem from either natural or manmade causes such as floods, hurricanes, fires, explosions and chemical spills. One of the most comprehensive ways of planning for emergencies is the provision of an emergency action program.

An emergency action design blankets the specified actions the management and the employees are to consider to guarantee safety in the event of any exigencies (Busick, 2013). Planning for work-related emergencies obliges a hazard assessment that determines the particular physical or chemical hazards that could lead to emergencies.

In case an incident happens, it is critical to mention that a disorganized evacuation could result in confusion, injury and damage to property. As such, a clear chain of control is necessary to manage the evacuation or shutdown process (Busick, 2013). For instance, an evacuation warden is vital in such scenarios. Of importance to include is specific evacuation procedures that include routes and exists for use during the emergency. The evacuation procedures should be placed strategically or announced clearly to ascertain that all persons at the workplace have access to them.

During the emergency, another important aspect to conceive is the coordination of outside emergency services in the shape of medical help and fire rescues. It is likewise critical to assure that the shutdown producers at the workplace follow the laid down protocols in the emergency action program.ReferencesBusick, Jennifer,M.P.H., I.H. (2013).
