Role played by United Nations (UN) agencies in support of organization mission Background The United Nations happens to be an intergovernmental organization that was established back in 1945 with a mission to enhance international co-operation[CITATION UN15 \l 1033 ]. It has well laid objectives that range from maintenance of peace and security to enhancing economic progress. Moreover, it is tasked with conserving and protecting the environment, promoting and guarding human rights to extending humanitarian support in the event of catastrophes and conflicts. Member States funds the UN through voluntary contributions. To accomplish its mission, the UN has specialized agencies that address specific matters that affect the international community. Two of those agencies are World Health Organization (WHO) and Unite Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR). The World Health Organization (WHO) This agency was convened in 1948 and basis its office in Geneva, Switzerland. It is mandated to uplift the international public health[CITATION Abo15 \l 1033 ]. It addresses this matter across borders to ensure proper health for the inhabitants of the planet. The agency has special priorities that address various areas of health. These include communicable diseases, sexual health, reproductive health, nutrition and healthy eating, food security, occupational health and check on substance use and abuse[CITATION BMJ48 \l 1033 ]. It aims at maintaining the highest level of health. WHO serves as an authority that directs and provide clear-cut criteria in the provision of international health. It ensures a smooth co-ordination among various branches that perform the duties of the organization. As such, the objectives of the agency are met, and the people accumulate benefits in health. The WHO works closely with member governments in the provision of health services. The organization extends assistance where need be to ensure that everybody is safe across continents. The WHO provides technical assistance to various nations and chip-in in times of emergencies and epidemics[ CITATION Shi46 \l 1033 ]. The recent Ebola outbreak has seen a quick reaction from the organization. Affected nations especially those in Africa have been supported, and some aid is still extended over there. We realize that there is a spirit of international cooperation that is the main mission of UN. The less abled nations are supported financially to better their services to people. Ebola has largely hit West Africa, and all eyes are focused over there. Emergency services are now a key element in those areas. It is paramount to note that the WHO aspires to meet UN overall goals. It has always tried to maintain some close collaboration with UN and other specialized agencies. This is seen in such areas where cases of refugees come into question. The WHO works closely with the UNHCR to ensure that the health of the people is not at stake. With many cases of conflicts in the world today, we have unplanned movement of people from affected places to more peaceful areas. There has been a rampant movement of people from Syria to Turkey to avoid conflict. Such people have no access to health services thus WHO has to work hand in hand with UNHCR to ensure that they are safe from diseases and have safe meals. The organization plays a leading role in public health. It is always keen to offer leadership in sensitive health matters to avoid confusion that would otherwise result to losses and epidemics. In a world that is so susceptible to diseases, the WHO has to offer guidance and administrative services for positive results. The earlier mentioned disease Ebola has been the most difficult to handle and has called for better leadership not just in vulnerable areas like Africa but all over the world. All technical leadership and advice have always come from the WHO. Public health calls for extensive research in an attempt to find a cure and other medical solutions. The WHO shapes such researchers direct and funds them on behalf of the member states. It generates new knowledge through such researchers and avails it to the public through various channels of communication. It takes the trouble of translating the information for member nations and disseminates it across borders within practical time frame to ensure maximum benefits. World Health Organization sets the standards and norms in public health. Need to have competent medical professionals is an agenda in this area. Such people should be in a position to handle patients the best way possible and provide the necessary post-treatment services to the patients. The WHO ensures that hospitals all over the world work towards having the required health facilities. Through financial aid and support, such standards are met in various part of the world though there is much to be done in many developing countries. The WHO has the sole responsibility of monitoring and assessing health conditions all over the world. There are so many trends in health, and such records and statistics are prepared and maintained by the WHO. This provides a platform for engaging in more productive researchers that are based on reliable data. The results and findings are used to better public health. The WHO has remained important to the state systems. It has always been committed to handling and address communicable diseases. HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria have been an area of concern. These diseases pose a burden to member states that are socially and economically. The health budget is unbalanced because the citizens in developing nations are dependent on the government for support. The organization works closely with agencies like UNAIDS to deal with HIV/AIDs in the world. The WHO addresses non-communicable diseases too. It aims at reducing deaths those results from mental illness, injuries and disabilities. The WHO also aims at prolonging life expectancy all over the world. It offers vaccines to adult and children to help them live longer[ CITATION Ore99 \l 1033 ]. The WHO extends public health education to member states. This enriches them with valuable knowledge on diseases and proper hygiene. Many diseases have been dealt with through such campaigns. Many people have been able to reduce incidences of Cholera through such education. There have reduced the number of deaths from the efforts made by the WHO. United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHRC) United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHR) was established in December 1950. It is based in Geneva, Switzerland. This agency has the call to protect and extend support to refugees in the event of movement from one nation to another[CITATION UNH15 \l 1033 ]. The service is prompted by a call by the government of the member state or a request by the United Nations (UN). The UNHCR assists and helps the victims in repatriation and settlement in the new location. They are helped to integrate with the locals and access basics like shelter, food, and clothing. The organization liaises with corresponding administrations to safeguard security and safety of the refugees. The organization aims at providing humanitarian support to the refugees regardless of their political orientation. The UNHR has to protect them and work to establish a permanent solution to their plight. The UNHCR practices a leadership role in coordination of international action and purpose in the protection of refugees and resolving of their problems to get a long term solution[ CITATION Ale09 \l 1033 ]. They see the need to safeguard their basic human rights in a foreign nation where they might be seen as a burden. UNHCR is committed to lead from the front to see that anyone can seek asylum in the event of political unrest and be free to integrate with the locals without fear of being sent back home. The organization ensures that they attain basics like water and food without struggle and discrimination. The governments involved should liaise with this agency for a smooth operation in the provision of these services. The High Commissioner (HC) of UNHCR seeks cooperation of member states in performing his/her duties. The HC seeks that the governments embrace the international conventions of the organization so as the services and duties of the organization can become a reality. The governments should be ready to get into agreements with the HC in an attempt to help the refugees and also reduce their numbers. The heads of states should be willing to admit refugees to their country and have special arrangements for the most destitute. The refugees should be well assimilated and assisted in integrating with the locals. The member states should feel the need to furnish the HC with the involved statistics and the conditions of the refugees hosted. The refugees should be afforded the most basic elements they need, and everybody should be committed to solving their plight. The UNHCR has a first-hand involvement in the repatriation of the refugees. This activity involves the host governments, the home government, and the refugees themselves. In coordination with host government, the UNHCR facilitates provision of travel documents to the refugees. They see that the movement is smooth and not hampered by procedures that might arise in the pursuit of the particular documents. They are supported while preparing for their journey back home. The UNHR sees that they are accepted without any cases of conflict. Their reintegration with other citizens is also facilitated. The refugees should not be forced to leave but should do so voluntarily. The UNHCR is keen to see that the overall goal of United Nations is realized by actively being involved in resettlement of the refugees. The HC liaises with the host governments to ensure that they extend the relevant support to the refugees[ CITATION Gra15 \l 1033 ]. They should be helped to transfer their property to their mother countries. The transport facilities should be available without bias and be there to those who are needier. The UNHCR works with the resettlement states to ensure that the reception is warm enough for an easy reintegration. UNHR extends technical advice to resettlement states on drafting and re-adoption of their citizens. The legislation of the immigrants should be suave for resettlement to be efficacious. The come back home event should not turn out as a disruption of the everyday activities. The tension and unrest that prompted these people to leave in the first place should be well eliminated. The resettlement government should create a hospitable atmosphere for the people to feel at home. It should have in place some policies for settlement of such people. They should be helped to attain back what they may have left behind. The UNHCR works closely with other agencies to ensure that refugees meet their needs before and after the resettlement. The World Health Organization ensures that the health of the refugees is not compromised. United Nations High Commission for the Refugees has been always important to the member states. The world has been a victim of violence with conflicts in such areas as South Sudan, Somalia, and the Arab world[ CITATION Fio02 \l 1033 ]. This has seen movement of people from affected regions to peaceful nations. Sudanese and Somalians have been flocking Kenya in the recent past. The UNHCR has liaised with Kenya to ensure that these people are supported. Camps at the borders have been established, and the numbers grow with escalated conflict. Such people and states are benefiting from the services of UNHCR that has always purposed to fulfil the overall mission of United Nations[ CITATION Gil02 \l 1033 ]. There is increased the sense of international cooperation in the duties of the UNHCR. The international community extends funds that go to the aid of the refugees through this organization.
