PERSONAL MENT The field of diplomacy revolves around establishing and maintaining positive relations between different nations. Diplomacy aims at common understanding on matters of interest between countries. It means learning and understanding how other nation’s cultures compare with yours and establishing a common working platform for the betterment of the countries (Hollitz, 2009). Right from childhood, I have loved the passion for communication, something that has become an integral part of my current position at the information centre of Saudi Embassy in Washington, D.C. The American government has many partners across the entire globe. Saudi Arabia is a sovereign state which has been a close associate of USA for a long time. In a bid to strengthen its relationship with the American government, Saudi Arabia undertook an exercise to look for women diplomats who would strengthen its agenda in its embassy in Washington, D.C. During the exercise a number of women were selected and chosen to take up the duty. The Ministry Of Foreign Affairs sampled 2000 women out of which they chose a few that would work in the embassy. I was among the 14 women who managed the selection process. The ministry organized a series of interviews which we did. I was able to pass the diplomatic test and two other interviews that were conducted by the ministry. Currently I am among the first four women who were later appointed to work for the embassy in Washington, D.C. working in the diplomatic field and Washington, D.C. to be specific has been an interesting adventure for me. Through the forums I have attended under the ministry, I have met and interacted with different ministers representing their respective ministries in their countries. I have managed to create linkages and working relationships with them. My excellence in diplomacy made the head of consular department in the ministry to appoint me as head of the department. In this new role, I had the mandate of ensuring good work is done and maintained by employees of the department. I was among the participants in the conference on counter-terrorism and the Japanese Peace Boat which was done in my country. My dedicated service at the Islamic Cooperation Conference earned me a certificate of appreciation from the minister. People from oversees who had an encounter with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs appreciated my services and in particular the way I communicated with them. I am not stopping soon in the service; my goal it to be the pioneer woman to represent my country in a foreign state. Working at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been a great milestone for me in my life and career. I have worked in several places before earning a place in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. I believe that it’s largely because of my experience and passion that many people I have interacted with appreciate the way I handle and communicate with them. I once worked as a sales supervisor in EWAAN Company. My work responsibilities meant that I creatively employ communication skills in enhancing efficiency in the sales team and increase customer base for the company. I was tasked with providing answers to the many questions that company customers had. I had to talk about various projects that the company was rolling out so that it would manage to retain those customers and satisfy them fully. I was able to satisfactorily handle this duty and the company grew exceedingly better. Working in this company also meant that I create regular meetings among the different sales teams so as to enhance communication and ensure that company objectives were fully being achieved. Through this, high standards of performance were created in line with the goals and objectives of the company. I was able to make regular reports to regional managers about the existing working atmosphere and growth prospects of the company. Similarly, I have also worked with Proctor and Gamble (Proctor and Gamble), a highly renowned multinational company. Here, I used much of my communication skills to manage my portfolio as a planner. In this responsibility, I was charged with making semi-annual product development plans. Ensuring their success required me to update them on weekly basis. In case of any problems arising, my duty was to ensure that it is solved fast and in the best way possible. It was my duty to create sustainable communication between customers and the company. This way the company was able to sustain its market share and gain a competitive advantage over its rivals. This exposed me to some kind of diplomatic responsibilities. I was able to learn a lot about other cultures across the globe and how to handle them in a professional manner. Working with Mobily Company was another important milestone in my career profile. At Mobily, I was in charge of the company’s QAD department, mandated with ensuring quality standards in the company’s products and services. My obligations included overseeing the operations of call agents. After working with them, I was tasked with evaluating their performance on monthly basis and making recommendations for the management. Whenever customers raised complaints about the company’s services and call agents, it was my responsibility to ensure that the problems and other issues were solved amicably and that the company retained and improved its brand relevance to its clients. In order to raise performance and image of the company, my duty was to liaise with various team leaders and lay steps whose implementation enabled the company achieve its goals and remain relevant in the industry. I was very fervent on dealing with others. To me, Communication means listening to people’s problems, getting their views and telling them about my point of view, to achieve a common goal. Currently I am working at the information office of Saudi Embassy in Washington, D.C. where as a department we are charged with responsibility over the media section as well as attending significant events and meetings in the Embassy. While here, we also present the Saudi culture to interested people and organizations including students. It is my hope of pursuance of passion in communication that has made me undertake a degree in communication so that I can achieve my ultimate life goals References Hollitz J. (2009).
