In December 2013, the estimated nominal GDP of United States was $17.1 trillion. American journey towards success would not have been possible with the generations of immigrants who came from every corners of the world. The debate around the globe and in United States was impact of immigration towards the government finances. But analysis and reports suggested that the immigration reformation can create a positive economic effect. The generation of immigrants has helped United States to become economic engine in the world. Immigration can not only help to create jobs and increase in wages but also reduce the federal deficit. This can help United States to become economic stable country. This research paper will discuss in favor of the following thesis statement: Thesis statement Immigration reformation can enhance the economic growth of United States. Analysis on the Thesis Statement Immigrants can help to start new business. According to the reports from small business administration, 30% of the immigrants are likely to start a new business in Unites States than that of the non-immigrants. Around 18% owner of small business in United States are immigrants. In 2007, Fiscal Policy Institute stated that 4.7 million of people are employed by small business organizations. In addition to this, latest report states that around $776 billion annually is generated from small business owned companies. This proves that immigrants can help United States to generate employment and job opportunities (Zhou 1040-1074). Small business owned companies can help to create jobs. One of the important benefits of immigration in economic contributions is by innovation. Innovations can the productivity which can later lead to increase in economic growth and living standards. U.S. department of Labor report says that 7.5 percent of foreign born employees are employed (Orrenius 1). Around 6.6 % of employees are native-born. Immigrants can help in development of cutting-edge companies. National Venture Capital Association states that around 25 % of U.S. companies owned by immigrants are backed by capital venture investors. Examples of venture capital investors that back companies owned by immigrants are eBay, Google, Intel and Yahoo. Considerable percentage scientists and engineers in U.S. are immigrants. This fact has been proved by Census Bureau. Census Bureau states that 27% of mathematicians, scientists and 33% population of engineers are immigrants. This can help United States in case of innovation. Economy of United States can grow due to the fact that 75 % of patents credited by the foreign-born companies of immigrants are issued to the top patent universities in U.S. The University of California, states that the increase of immigrants in United States helped to increase the earning of U.S. employers. Increase of immigrants has helped to raise the pay of U.S. employers by 0.7%. In future, it is expected that increase in earning of U.S. workers can rise up to 1.8%. Immigrants are mainly Latinos and Asians. By the year 2015, it is estimated that the purchasing power of Asians and Latinos can reach to $2.0 trillion. This is the huge factor for the growth of economy inUnited States. Immigration can help to increase opening of jobs and providing higher wages to the employees (Kalleberg 1-22). In addition to this, reformation of immigrants can help to control the federal deficit. This can benefit the economy of United States during the period of recession. American Action Forum stated that during next 10 years, reformation of immigrants can help United States to reduce the federal deficit by $2.5 trillion. Rather than federal deficit, reformation can help to strengthen social security.Federal deficit will reduce due to the increase of tax revenue. Immigration can be like the DREAM Act. Centre for American Progress states that immigration can help to provide 900,000 job openings within 3 years. This will happen due to the increase of spending from the customers. During the period of recession, immigration can help to provide job to employers. It is also assumed that comprehensive reformation of immigrants can increase the GDP of United States. It has been assumed that GDP could increase between 0.8% and 1.3%. Assumption of the GDP is done between the years 2012 to 2016. Immigration can not only makes United States strong but also help to improve economy and sustain its stability. Discussion about the Thesis Statement It has been stated in president Obama’s book Change We Can Believe In, that small businesses formed by immigrants are the main engine source of the economy of United States. To progress in the market of United States, millions of immigrants can create their own business. This can create job openings and maintain economic stability. Immigrants contributes to the economy of the country as consumers, workers and lastly as taxpayer. Immigrants can provide a vital part in the labor market. Immigrants can help by contributing in business creation and providing innovation. Therefore, President Barrack Obama is trying to enact the immigration reform legislation (McCabe and Meissner 1). Firstly, immigration helps to grow the economy of Unites states by increasing the labor force. Since mid of 1990, immigrants occupy about one half of the U.S. labor force. 16% of the workforces are foreign-born workers. This proves that it can help economy of United States to be bigger. Immigrants can be important source of labor force but contribution of immigrants to the GDP is small. But this misses number of important aspects of immigration which are innovation and business creation. It have been analyzed that 33% of immigrants are engineers and 27% are scientists and mathematicians. Many people can attest that immigrants come to United States for higher education and improve living standard. But it can help United States to increase labor force and help to maintain stability in workforce (White House Report 1). Job opening and increase in wages are advantage of immigration. But in addition to this, immigration can help to control the federal deficit and can reduce it substantially. The immigration reformation can help to increase consumer spending and also can increase the demand for housing construction. Migration policy Institute reports states that during the time of growing economy of the country, immigration helps to improve productivity, employment and income. The economy of United States can gain its productivity and employment by immigration. Immigration can help to retain talents globally. The software industries in United States are struggling to get best employers to fill their vacant jobs. Talented students can get jobs in these software companies. To maintain the position in the globalized era, companies recruit global talent. Immigration can help Americans to be less globally isolated. In other words, most of the Americans travel less outside of the country. Americans contact other people from other countries from their home country. Immigration can help Americans to meet new people of different countries. This will help to connect citizenry to the larger world. Immigration can help to enhance multilingualism. Immigrants can become entrepreneur and start a new business which will create job opening for U.S. workers. Immigrants can create businesses at higher rate that than of natives of United States.And they can eventually contribute towards the economic growth. Immigrants can help to boost tax revenue and increase the base of taxpayer. This will gradually keep the prices of the goods down. The prices of the goods which are lowered by immigrants are used by 0.4% of GDP of highly educated consumers. The large number of immigrants can reduce the tax revenue which can help the growth of economy in United States. Retires employers creates a large number of vacant job position. During that time, United States will not have sufficient new workers to fill the vacant position. Immigrants are required to fill the vacant job positions. Immigration can help to control the aging of U.S. population for over two decades. It can slow the ratio of old-age dependency.New taxpayers are required to fund social security. Immigrants can help US economy by being new taxpayers and filling the job position of retirees. Small business owned by immigrant can help to connect to the global market place. Around 7% of the immigrant owned small business exports goods and services. 4 % of non-immigrant owned business export their goods and services. The large numbers of immigrants are from Latin America. Region’s burgeoning economic position can decline the economy of United States. But Latin America immigrants can provides a huge economic opportunity. In 2012, Latin America economic expansion growth was 3%. United States growth of economic expansion was 1.5%. So U.S. has the opportunity to capitalize on the economic expansion of Latin America. Conclusion Immigration can only help to grow the economy of United States. Immigration not only will help to create job opportunity and will increase wages of the workers but will also help to improve the standard of living of Americans. It can also help to increase the social security and also reduce the fiscal deficit. Immigrants can not only help to boost the earning of the Americans but also boost consumption of goods. The new skills and innovation of immigrants can only help United States to grow economically and create new job openings. Immigrants can be entrepreneur which can help in job creation in the U.S. economy. United States competitiveness and job crisis can be solved by strong economic growth.
