However, American democracy will not work in the Middle East…ever. It is a different culture. We need to respect the differences, instead of trying to make the world see things the American way. Israel is another issue that can be used to attack America. Israel was not given to the Israelis. The Palestinians have been ruled by European countries for centuries before the British pulled out. The Arab countries of Iraq, Iran, Jordan, Syria, and Egypt to name a few attacked the newly formed Israel.

The Israelis forced them back. The Occupied Territories were taken by Israel in a war started by their neighbors. If America did not back Israel, they would be hypocritical. America would have to look at giving back states like Texas, New Mexico, and other southern states to Mexico if they backed the Palestinian cause. U.S. political elites feel that if the Palestinians are so miserable they should immigrate to a neighboring Arab state. The Arab states and Palestinians attacked Israel first. Israel just defended themselves is the attitude.

The real reason that the U.S. is committed to Zionism and the State of Israel is it provides an ally in the Middle East. After all of the brave sentiments about freeing people and democracy, the United States has to have put their own interest first. As long as the U.S. supports Israel, the United States can influence the region.
