Extract of sample "Making Sense of the Size of the Universe"

The 21st-century man believes that he may have to share the universe with other beings in other planets. On the other hand, one who has not heard of the latest discoveries would think he owns the universe; thus, making him feel very special and significant.
One does not think that religious views and beliefs should be updated now that new discoveries are unearthed. Religion is a matter of faith. It should not be based on any scientific finding. Religion is one’s relationship with God, the Supreme Being. Even if there are other beings in the universe, one must still believe and trust that he is special in God’s eyes. One may choose to believe that even the other beings in the other galaxies are also special to God. Christianity need not be updated because of these new discoveries because Christianity is not based on the number of planets, stars or galaxies. It is very hard, if not impossible to reconcile science with religion. The vastness of the universe cannot dictate upon any individual a change in faith. The universe, the stars, the galaxies are not the core of one’s existence. An individual’s existence and significance are determined by his own view of life and his belief on the Creator who made him part of the universe.  Read More

The task athand asks of us to flesh out a metaphor – to draw parallels between organisations and machines. In some ways the answers appear readily evident, but there are other, more subtle, likenesses between the two that may be discerned from how humans relate to both. The Origin of the Universe

..., it is in some sense space itself which created matter, the negative energy locked in the curvature of space compensating exactly for the positive energy locked in matter] The inflationary universe provides a resolution for three of our challenges. First, it gives the universe the boost for its expansion. Second, the huge inflation must have flattened any curvature that space would have had before. Imagine inflating a balloon to the size of Earth. On our scale the balloon looks now flat. Because flat space is the borderline case between an open and a closed universe, we now have a universe with the exact fine-tuned push it needed to have...

Making Sense

...of the chapter. Firstly, we need to understand that morality is a characteristic found only in humans, and not found in other natural species, i.e. the Flora, Fauna or other cosmic forces. Morality is related to rationality and it is grounded in our religion, philosophy and hedonism. Next comes the concept of moral relativism i.e. the concept of morality is relative and what might be right for someone might not be right for someone else. This involves objectivity and subjectivity i.e. what is universal truth (objective) or what is subject to individuals (Subjective). Also, the concept of cultural relativism is significant which implies that morality is defined by reality. Stages of making...

Representation - Making Sense of Society

...Representation: Making Sense of Society Literature is a unique ‘environment’ based on real and unreal events, the ‘thinkable’ and the ‘unthinkable’.The novel Metamorphosis by F. Kafka vividly illustrates the boundary between the ‘normal’ and ‘abnormal’ helping readers to distinguish these two worlds. At the same time, it is important to note that literary perception depends upon the experience of the reader, which determines the given boundary between two frames. Following Greenblatt (year); literature renegotiates the boundary between the ‘normal’ and ‘abnormal’, and Metamorphosis; that is vividly reflected in this literary phenomenon. The boundary between the ‘normal’ and ‘abnormal’ is influenced by...

Comparison of two Non-sense Children Texts

...physicists have proved that there is a tremendous sense in this nonsense. How can we be one when we are so separate and different? But we are, as we are all made of atoms and are part of one big energy field. We are a part of one whole universe ( Chopra, 2003 p40). Edward Lear and Lewis Carroll has somehow made us to live this truth of quantum physics by making their characters do weird things gracefully and also by showing them as energetic beings full of flamboyance and excitement. Nonsense has the ability to go beyond logic and ‘obvious’. It has the ability to take you to a ...
