Nevertheless, it is suggested that such deep integration of technology into lives of the people also had a negative effect on their intellectual development. With more children operating various devices from their young age, one might ask a legitimate question: in what manner does the technology affect out brain? This paper will analyze several approaches towards this issue. To begin with, it must be noted that many researchers argue that “in recent years, the contributions of modernization to cognitive development have come to the fore in relation to the Flynn effect, with its demonstration of worldwide secular IQ gains” (Gauvain & Munroe, 2009, 1628).

In other words, there is clear, experiment based evidence that people are becoming smarter because they engage technology into their lives. Indeed, in the previous times people relied on books as the primary source of knowledge, but books could mostly be read in libraries which was rather inconvenient. Nowadays, computers and smartphones offer people an ability to gain knowledge in comfortable environment which encourages many individuals to develop intellectually. As a result, their average score on IQ tests becomes higher.

There is no doubt that this tendency will continue which means that in the future ordinary people may be more intelligent that our contemporaries due to distribution of technology. Another point that should be mentioned is that the positive effect of technology on human brain might be witnessed from the early age. For example, it was found that “children in communities with more modern resources performed better in some areas of cognitive functioning, such as certain types of memory and pattern recognition, and they took part in more complex sequences of play” (Society for Research in Child Development, 2009).
