Personal Statement on Philosophy of Education Philosophy of education is an academic field that applies to the philosophy that promotes a specific type or vision of education that examines the definition and goals as well as the meaning of learning and knowing (Kilpatrick 31). Nonetheless, the most vital significance of the philosophy of education is the academic field that deals with knowledge transfer since it is the essential or the central knowledge or subject matter that aims at solving learning problems that include the philosophical methodologies that are vital for all learning processes within any education discipline (Elias 136). Therefore, philosophy of education forms part of the learning process that is concerned with the aim, form, method, and the results of any educational/learning process. It is then worth noting that, philosophy of education is a tool that directs the educational processes that are geared to the targeted group. From the understanding of the historical literature philosophy of education, it is worth noting that a learner or every child must be identified as a unique individual who needs to secure knowledge towards stimulating intellectual, emotional, social, and physical growth and maturity (Frankena 76). Therefore, as an educator (Dhawan 79), it is my desire to help each student to meet his or her fullest potential in educational growth and maturity by providing for them with a safe environment that supports risk taking and inviting sharing of ideas towards their knowledge growth and development. Notably, I believe that the three educational philosophy elements that I must apply to achieve these goals. These elements are usually conductive towards establishing proper learning and developing environment in every learner’s education or learning process. These elements include the expectation of the teacher as the guide to any educational process; learners should be allowed to follow their natural curiosity and the same should to direct the learning process, and the last element is promoting respect among the learners. Therefore, it is understandable that it is my role as a teacher to guide and provide access to information to the students rather than being the primary source of the information to the students or learners. Hence, the learner should be in the forefront in search of knowledge such that their search of knowledge is quenched as they learn to provide an appropriate answer to their questions (Kilpatrick 38). Thus, the construction of knowledge needs the opportunity for discovering new practices and skills in authentic situations (Frankena 90). Therefore, as a teacher I understand that adequate access to hand on activities, as well as adequate space and time to students, is vital enable them to use the identified material to apply and reinforce acquired knowledge thereby allowing them with an individual opportunity to construct and discover knowledge. Additionally, other than providing learning materials and self-discoveries opportunities to the learners, it is vital to ensure that these materials are relevant and meaningful to the life and the interest of the learner. Achieving these targets can only be met through a constructive and thoughtful curriculum that revolves mainly around or fosters intrinsic interests that motivate and stimulates the learner’s passion and interest (Kilpatrick 35). Therefore, curriculum is a vital tool that will help me to follow the right path towards helping the learner to achieve his or her interests and goals objectively and successfully (Elias 213). Notably, an effective curriculum can only be generated from learners’ ideas and set goals rather than creating the curriculum for educator’s self-imaginations (Frankena 132). In other words, as an educator, I will give students the opportunity to help in negating a curriculum and this will be achieved through viewing and analysing their interests. It is worth noting that when the students are taught by their own the curriculum, they will be motivated intensively to master the necessary skills and to work hard towards achieving their personal set educational set goals and objectives. Students should also be helped to develop and attain deep love and respect among themselves and with other people in the society. These target elements can only be attained through open sharing of ideas as well as through judicious approach of the educational disciple. Participation of each student will automatically allow evolution of the environments around them thereby making the students free towards expressing themselves (Dhawan 42). Numerous ways through which students can be encouraged to express include class meeting and activities that incorporate playing that allow student-to-student interactions thereby encouraging dialogue among themselves (Kilpatrick, 27). Notably, students often have greater respects to their peers, teacher, and lessons presented to them especially when they feel secure, sure, and safe of what is expected of them. Therefore, setting consistent and fair rules that state the significance of every activity students are expected to undertake often make students develop and show respect to time and presence (Frankena 162). These rules in turn make them know the significance of respect among themselves, with their environment, and others persons in the society. As per my understanding, philosophy of education considers teaching as an avenue that provides the opportunity for continual and consistent learning and growth. Therefore, as an educator, it is my responsibility to instill the spirit and the notion of love among the students through sharing personal passion with them particularly during the learning processes. Moreover, I have the feeling that there is a need for strong, compassionate, and dedicated educators who are willing and dedicated as well as excited working with children to help towards inculcating this knowledge acquiring processes to learners. Despite the competitive nature of the society towards working with students, it is vital that students be provided with the solid education and be allowed to work with professionals who are aware and sensitive to students individual needs. Therefore, I inspire towards achieving these elementary requirements towards being on of the best students’ educator. Additionally, it is worth noting that children are the future of any given society; thus, providing them with appropriate and quality education will enable them to initiate some memorable and unique social and political leadership of the world. Proper and quality education will make them acquire sound problem solving techniques and pass the same to other coming generations (Cahn 172). These forms of quality leadership can only be instilled in children by adopting proper and adequate philosophy of education in transferring knowledge to students.
