? Inductive and deductive reasoning Unions are prominent organizations that help workers that come together to achieve certain goals that are common to all of them. In most cases, the unions deal with setting the integrity of the trade, fighting to get higher payments and also try to set up good working conditions for themselves. This paper is going to evaluate whether public workers should be allowed to join unions and engage in collective bargaining by use of inductive and deductive reasoning. Inductive and deductive reasoning Introduction A union is an organized group of people who have come together in order to achieve some objectives that are familiar to all of them. They act as a form of representation of the people at work (Brock & Lipsky, 2003). These unions seem like a better place for the public workers to engage in collective bargaining in order to gain their fundamental needs. Over the last years, there have existed a number of key transformations in the economy and the industries. A large number of people are either without employment or they toil under the continuous intimidation of joblessness. These groups act on most cases on behalf of the union members. Through the management of the unions, the associates are able to pass their claims and needs to their employer as one voice (Cihon & Castagnera, 2011). This brings up the system of collective bargaining in that the union takes up the role of negotiating with the employer in order for them to offer a good deal to the workers. These forms of collective bargaining are aimed at coming to a point that the working state of the employees is regulated. The old, working outlines have been forgotten. People are now working under different conditions, like short term contracts, temporary or part-time (Brock & Lipsky, 2003). This form makes job security to be a growing predicament for the people who are carrying out the jobs in order to take care of their own wants and the requirements of those under them. In addition, the public workers have not as much safety and rights at their places of work. The new legislation set by the government has deteriorated the rights of employment (Wiley, 2013). Public workers should be allowed to engage in the collective bargaining so that they can negotiate and get their grievances heard by the employer (Brock & Lipsky, 2003). A single employer cannot have control on some of the most crucial characteristics of their lives, for example, their working place. However, when the public workers get an opportunity to join the unions, they gain an upper hand in accomplishing democracy in the workplace. Their voice as one influences the founding of the regulations that have power over them (Cihon & Castagnera, 2011). Deductive reasoning is a form of research that works from a universal point of view to a precise point. On the other hand, inductive reasoning works in the converse way it moves from definite examination to broader overview (Wiley, 2013). Argument The workers undergo difficult problems, and they are not in a position to raise their concerns to the managers. These ranges from low payment, practices of labor that are exceedingly poor, unsafe working conditions and tough policies et cetera. In other occasions, the employer may become hostile to the workers and because the personnel are under the manager they have no power to complain as individuals (Brock & Lipsky, 2003). Majority of the workforce has been pushing for union representation (Brock & Lipsky, 2003). They want to be represented in the negotiations that look upon their wages, working hours and other conditions that align with their employment; like safety from sucking without good reason (Wiley, 2013). The union will ensure that each employer has equal rights in their workplace as others. It shall ensure prosperity in the livelihood of people. This protects the wellbeing and offers security to the staff. There will be fairness in order for the nation to develop (Wiley, 2013). According to Brock & Lipsky (2003), Public workers have been in service with remarkably little amount of money and other resources. If their bargaining rights are taken away from them, they will be always under the control of their managerial position. Unions have been formed because they have been unfair allocation of wages to the public works and unsafe working surroundings. On the other hand, if these problems and claims could not have been there, then they would be no need of these unions (Brock & Lipsky, 2003). The managerial post has to consult the unions over any changes that they intent to make, instead of dictating the terms and condition that govern everybody without discussing with them first. When AFL-CIO did some research, the members within the union could earn approximately thirty percent extra than those who were not within the unions. This difference was brought about by the agreements that were brought forward after negotiating with some firms that establishes the rates of wages for certain jobs (Cihon & Castagnera, 2011). Most of the public workers seem to be losing, when they are not offered some of the significant fringe benefits that could help them later. By joining these unions, AFL-CIO has further reported that sixty eight percent of the staff within the unions has their pensions secured as at the same time, fourteen percent of people, not in the union enjoy such benefits (Brock & Lipsky, 2003). Furthermore, the unions have negotiated for the public workers in the health care front, to have better health care services. The statistics reveal that approximately ninety seven percent of those within the unions have better health care while roughly eighty five percent of the personnel, not in the unions have insurance in health care. The system of collective bargaining offers each of the sides with a clearer comprehension of the other side’s requirements and purpose (Wiley, 2013). Payne (2009) suggests that these unions are formed because they have a better chance to pass their voice as one to the upper level of management. Personnel who work as individual encompass modest supremacy to manipulate any of the decision that covers a large group of employees (Paynes, 2009). Very few union members get to be dismissed from their jobs because the union has campaigned for some of the laws and policies that are in the side of protecting the fundamental rights of the workers. Counter-thesis and counter-argument Strongest objection to this argument comes from the accusation that arises from the fact that, the unions end up benefiting only those workers that are inside the union, those having a secure line of work at the price of the outside personnel (Cihon & Castagnera, 2011). Moreover, these unions sometimes bring up the industrial action when the two parties have failed to agree. This makes the employers to lose due to the disturbance on the business processes (Wiley, 2013).. This ends up jamming reforms and raising costs, without civilizing performance (Wiley, 2013). These costs that overpay the public workers end up bankrupting the nation’s government. Response to counter-argument Those that choose not to join the union have no basis to claim that the benefits only go to the members. The trade unions are formed to cooperate in one fight for democracy for all workers. It is only through unity and negotiation that the workers will be able to state their grievances (Wiley, 2013). The achievement from the cooperation and negotiation of the union helps all the workers in a specific job. It does not discriminate individuals nor push the government at the cost of other people (Paynes, 2009). Cihon & Castagnera (2011) say that there are different types of union that do cover specific jobs and trades. A person is allowed to join any of the trade unions that he prefers according to the section of work that they are in. People in the society find out about these unions in different ways that is open to the public. It is not a private organization that has some selected individuals. Every new session the unions try to catch the attention of other new members by use of diverse mean (Wiley, 2013). On the other hand, the strikes do occur as a last resort. This is a risk the union takes because both sides get to lose. Unions only try to work in affiliation with employers on the general concerns, and if these agreements or their terms are not met they escalate campaigns to defend the rights of the group running up and down for the good of the Nation (Paynes, 2009). Conclusion Cooperation and unity is the only way that shall bring us together and bring better livelihood for us and for the whole nation. Public workers should be given the mandate to bond with different unions in order to air out their grievances. This will in turn see that they work hard for other people that they are serving and their nation, as well. These unions will remain indispensable to those people whose careers are insecure because they will have need of guidance and support.
