Chamber Orchestra Concert Review - Essay Example

At the beginning of the play, I had to listen to the strings, which later transcended into the woodwinds played. There was a slow ascension of the crescendos by the orchestra. The orchestra followed suit with the bassoon, and lastly, the solo plays followed by the orchestra. It was much more of an upbeat type of vibe which I was taken by. Lark Ascending took the stage with the second act. Violins started the piece played, and the violins were a bit downtempo. With the entrance of the solo violinist, it met with the piano played by the orchestra. The soloist began the forte with a play that followed slowly with the crescendos and the decrescendos.

At that moment, the orchestra swings in with the mezzo-piano playing, which ended with a crescendo. When the act is coming to an end, it marks only the soloist playing and ends with the slow decrescendos. Symphony No. 4 marked the last piece of the night, which was in A Major, Op. 90, which was by Felix Mendelssohn.

The last piece is more of an upbeat and hype vibe following the Lark Ascending. I could hear the strings playing at the start of the act, and the woodwinds also rushed in. There was a tradeoff between the woodwinds and strings with the rhythms. The Allegro Vivace marked the first tempo of the play. The second movement begins with the strings playing, which is similar in comparison to what the first movement played. After that, there is the playing of the cellos with a steady rhythm of the eighth note. The rhythm follows with the playing of the flute and oboes. The cellos mark the end of the movement with the plucking notes. The beginning of the third movement marks the violins starting to play, followed by the flutes and the bassoons playing in the background. During the play of the movement, I heard the horns, which blends with the strings for a soft and harmonic background played.

This movement ends with a couple of notes as a result of the flute in the session. The last movement makes for a faster upbeat compared to any of the remaining parts. The violins are the movement with the fortissimo, which ushers the flutes which playing with the sixteenth note. During the middle of the piece, there are the playing horns of a fanfare that resembles the style of the violins that are playing in the background. At the end of the act, there is the violin decrescendo with one of the members hitting the timpani. I have to admit, that the last piece was my highlight of the concert. The liking of the act was due to its upbeat nature, and it ranked as the most pleasing one. I also was taken away by the last movement of Symphony No. 4 since the rhythms that played through the piece were superb.

I was taken away by the nature of strings and woodwinds, which could trade off the rhythms. Compared to the violins which would play, one rhythm followed by the flute would play with a different one. I was in love because it accentuated the entire effect, which keeps me gasping for more action within the piece. Unfortunately, I was not taken by the Lark Ascending at all. My dislike for the piece roots from the slow nature of the play, especially when you have a listen to it. I felt that the mood of the piece could suit a more somber mood to listen in my room and not at a concert. However, I give props for being a wonderful piece of music, but it did not fit my satisfaction in comparison to other pieces throughout the concert. If it was my cause, I would replace the piece to listen to with another upbeat piece that sets the mood for the concert.

The first piece of the concert was also thrilling and fun in its own right. However, it still falls behind Symphony No. 4 but makes for a good piece. The three pieces were flawless and left no room for improvement. The pieces were in tune while featuring a consistent flow with the harmonic balance with the musical instruments making for a good treat to listen to. A common sighting within the concert was there was a low turn-up. The audience was sizeable but far from being sold out. I feel that the current generation has less appreciation for art.
