Eartha Kitt Biological Profile and historical framework Eartha Kitt was an American dancer, actress, singer and cabaret star who was born on a cotton farm in North in 1927. Due t healthy harvest that year, Kitt’s father named her “Eartha." The family was penniless and when she was still young, her father whom she never knew left him. The family had to migrate from one place to another so as to support themselves. Kitt was a mixed racial parentage, and her light skin made her unwelcome to some. Her mother was a mixed of African – American and Native American ancestry and met a white man whom she decided to marry. Kitt’s mother left two children with a neighbor family, deciding not to unrelate them. The young Eartha Kitt had to cook, clean, weed the patch, keep the cows’ track, pick cotton, and do many chores to cover her room and board. She says that was not handled well in her new destination. She had a chance of seeing her mother only a few times through the three years she lived there, once when she was taken to visit her new half-sister called Almita. Kitt’s mother died six years later, Ralston(1986, pp 74-81). Eartha left South Carolina to live with her aunt while she was eight years old. She lost touch with any family connections in the state. She went school that was in New York and begun a way that lead to a career in show business. Her aunt was interested in her to be a concert pianist thus Eartha started to take piano classes, though she did not like playing the piano and practicing. She was one of the choir members in the church and acted plays. As Kitt entered her teenage, their finances started to increase. She recounts that they had enough food to feed and at least better clothing. After the audition, she was registered to the prestigious high school for the performing arts. Her relationship with her aunt who was never good finally deteriorated. She got a part-time job to pay for her food and expenses. That led to her aunt throwing her out of the house. She was then lucky to get work as a seamstress in a factory, but strayed her work after a disorder kept her out of work for two weeks. She got an interim work in a factory and then exhausted the summer at a camp in Connecticut working on a farm. She convened a young woman on the street of New York who was looking for orientations. The little lady was a dancer for Katherine Dunham, a choreographer who managed a school of dance. Despite her apprehension, she was persuaded to try that talent. She started it at 16 years. She won a scholarship to the Katherine Dunham dance school; she commenced to tour with the organization and attained her first professional success. As one of the troupes, she visited Mexico as well Europe countries and South America as well as the U.S. After deciding to live in city Paris, she started to sing in nightclubs.
