As leader of the group, Counselor One is responsible not only for his own unethical behavior but for the group under his leadership as well. Counselor One should know that possible psychological trauma or emotional harm to both, clients and to the group of paraprofessionals under his lead, need to be avoided and foreseen. Paraprofessionals should have also known the ACA Code of Ethics and applied it by informing the clients of their lack of training and supervised experience in the area of group counseling. Their conduct is highly unethical for accepting a roll for which they are not fully qualified to deliver, Counselor One is aware of the practice by the permanent licensed professional staff members of avoiding groups with heavy demands, indirectly causing that others who are new to the field and eager to serve skip the rules and show an unethical conduct. Counselor One should have gone to his supervisor for advise. Counselor Two Conduct: 2 ACA CODES: A.1.a., A.1.c., A.11.c, C.2.d., C.2.e., F.1.a.,D.1.g. Once the client had successfully dealt with the issues that originally brought him to treatment, Counselor Two should have either terminated the counseling relationship or together with the client assess whether there was need to continue with counseling in other areas. Counselor is responsible of monitoring her/his own effectiveness and when seeing that the client no longer benefits from the counseling move to appropriate termination. Counselor Three Conduct: 4 ACA CODES: A.1.a., A.4.a., .A.7., A.8.b., B.1.c., B.1.d., B.2.a., B.5.b., C.1., c.6.a., H.1.b., H.2.d., F.1.a., D.1.g. The moment the parents requested Counselor Three to see their daughter, the counselor should have explained the limitations of confidentiality, which can go both ways, to protect the information about the minor from the parents or against the parents, (foreseeable situations). Counselors do not condone sexual harassment, and by Texas Law, counselor is required to inform the appropriate authorities of the abuse. Counselor should have also consulted with supervisor. Counselor Four Conduct: 2 ACA CODES: A.1.a., A.2.a, A.2.d., A.11.b, B.1.d., F.1.a., D.1.g. Counselor Four failed to tell the client about his limitations as a therapist due to her inability to give consent because of her status as a minor, and should have informed the potential client about this prior to listen to her case, also, Counselor Four failed to foresee the problem and failed to inform the client, he would be forced by law to inform the proper authorities about any circumstance that required it, such as physical abuse. He failed his primary obligation of concern for the clients welfare and avoiding at all reasonable cost her potential psychological damage. Counselor Five Conduct: 1 Counselor Five did everything right, she couldnt have known that a nosy employee would look up the records at the insurance offices. It is the insurance company who is at fault for not locking the clients records, the administrative ones included. Counselor Six Conduct: 3 ACA CODES: A.1.a., A.4.a., A.4.b., F.1.a., D.1.g. Counselor made a conclusion based on his/her own values, and beliefs regarding the issue, without granting the client "reasonable doubt" on whether or not there was indeed gender or "rooky" discrimination in the clients work place. Counselor did not take into consideration that the client already had an apprehensive personality and low self esteem based on the fact that she developed anxiety, and insomnia, and he should have worked into removing the barriers inhibiting the clients growth and development rather than invalidating a concern that was real to her. Counselor Seven Conduct: 3 ACA CODES: A11.b, C1. C.2.a., D.1.a., D.1.b., D.2.a, E.4, F1.a. The Client was referred for assessment only, the findings, evaluation, and the proposed change of therapy should have been communicated to the Psychiatrist. Counselor Seven bypassed the importance of working to develop and strengthen interdisciplinary relations with colleagues, failed to accept that she was not a qualified professional for this Client. Counselor should have offered a referral should the client have insisted on changing therapist and this also should have been communicated to the Psychiatrist. Counselor Eight: Conduct: 1 Counselor did the right thing; she communicated the client about her inability of continuing the therapy, offered a referral and did a follow up to find out if the client showed up with the other therapist. Counselor did the right thing not disclosing the reason for the dismissal because it might have endangered the victim. Counselor Nine Conduct: 4 ACA CODES: A.1.a., A.5.a., A.10.e, C.6.b., F.1.a., H.2.f. Counselor Nine was highly unethical on accepting gifts of suggestive nature and allowing romantic interaction, she failed to foresee that the client/therapist relationship would escalate to the end scenario. She failed to report sexual harassment as well. She forgot that in session with a client, she is not a woman, but a counselor. Counselor Ten Conduct: 1 ACA CODE: C.2.g. Counselor Ten did the right thing because he knew he couldnt honestly promote the welfare of Caucasian clients due to his own pain, however, he should have long before seek assistance to his own impairment.
