20 May, World after 25 years: There has been a growing concern among public about looks for quite some time. People have become looks conscious and are increasingly opting for all kinds of surgeries including liposuction and gynecomastia to rid themselves of looks that they can easily live with otherwise. There is quite a lot of representation of people in the population that gets the liposuction done who are not actually obese, or even overweight! In fact, “The best candidates for liposuction are normal-weight people with firm, elastic skin who have pockets of excess fat in certain areas” (Ramos).
All they want the surgery done for is to remove the fat from specific areas of body like thighs or breast etc to enhance their looks. Likewise, gynecomastia is a condition in which men develop lumps in their chest which are totally benign and can be lived with, yet many men with gynecomsatia get the lumps removed through surgery. “Male gynecomastia surgery was performed on over 16500 men in 2001, up 48 percent from 1997” (“Male Gynecomastia”). This essentially tells that a vast majority of people getting surgeries are unnecessarily conscious about their looks and have no medical reasons to get the surgery done.
Another growing concern in the whole world in the contemporary age, that is quite different from the one discussed above, is the depleting natural resources. Natural resources are depleting readily, and scientists estimate abolishment of oil reserves 25 years from now in many areas which are the key producers of oil today. Transportation being the major consumer of oil, is going to be severely affected by this depletion. “Transportation accounts for about 72 percent of our domestic oil use” (Venetis).
In light of these facts, it can be foreseen that 25 years from now, people would resort to the bicycles for traveling by road. There are several good reasons to estimate so. First, bicycles do not consume any oil. Because of this quality, using bicycle as a means of traveling does not only remain very economical, but also rids the people of the need of oil for traveling. The second advantage links the two problems of the present age discussed above i.e. look consciousness and oil depletion. The advantage is that while driving a bicycle, the rider has to constantly peddle in order to reach the destination.
Thus, bicycling is essentially a constant and uninterrupted exercise for the body throughout the duration of the travel. It is conducive for better health as well as looks of the bicycle riders (“Bicycle Benefits”). “At a modest pace, the bicycle allows you to burn about 400 calories and hour, so yes, there are most certainly concrete physical reasons why the bicycle makes you feel so good” (Haynes). The third advantage of using bicycle as a means of travel is that the collisions of bicycles with bicycles or bicycles with pedestrians is least likely to result into life taking accidents.
The accidents would be of very minor nature, if they at all occur, and no loss whatsoever can be expected to result from the accidents. The point here is not that driving bicycle gets a man rid of gynecomastia. The point here, instead is that bicycling is an appealing option for people with all kinds of look consciousness in general.
