Mrs. Mallard feels the true sense of freedom. The emotion that is identifiable in the story is the emotion of happiness, relief, and contentment. We in our daily lives feel contented and happy when some work gets completed or we get rid of some difficult situation. I felt contented and relieved when I got rid of my loan as it was always depressing me.

Mrs. Mallard gets contented and relieved when she realizes that she is after all free and on her own to do anything she likes. I also felt the same when I realized that I did not have to pay any further to the bank. I felt as if I was free to use my money the way I like and with full liberty. I felt as if some responsibility or restriction had left my way. Mrs. Mallard considered her husband as a hindrance in her way towards freedom and after his death; she enjoyed her freedom as she said, “Free! Body and soul free!” (Chopin 1894). She regarded her body as well as her soul, both fully at liberty without any repression from her husband anymore.

I can relate to the character of Mrs. Mallard in a sense as she also considers herself free and I felt the same situation. However, we had different problems and we both wanted freedom from our problems. She was not expecting to get freedom from her autocratic husband and when she got liberty, she was unable to control her joyfulness due to which, she lost her life. Because of submitting the loan interest every month, I also regarded myself as caged as I was unable to make any plans and was not able to step as I liked. Therefore, when I got the notification that my loan was paid fully, I was not fully sure about it and I felt myself fully free like Mrs. Mallard.

Human beings share similar emotions of fear, anxiety, happiness, relief, and so on. The emotions of one person can be matched with the emotions of another person based on the concept that all human beings are equal. Freedom is essential for every human being and one considers himself free when he can decide and do what he likes. Human beings like no restriction at all. Fiction also informs us about the same thing. We, human beings, can be related to one another based on our emotions and feelings. There is no second opinion about it. Mrs. Mallard and I shared the same emotions of happiness and contentment when we got rid of our burdens and restrictions. The pursuit of freedom is the objective of every human being. Read More
