. 12 Apr. Globalization is Playing Important Role in Our Culture: Music is loved by many people in the Arab world. There are many kinds of music such as rock, pop, rap, and hip hop. Rap and hip hop music which are based on African American culture music, nowadays have spreading all over the world but authorities in some countries reject it indirectly like what happens in Arab world. ‘'American hip-hop music began to see popularity in the Arab World in the early-to-mid 1990s''1 (“Arab Hip Hop”).

A large number of Arab countries are taking up hip hop as a genre in music. Hip-hop music is not a part of the Arabic culture, but as soon as people listen to it and find out that it is interesting they like it. DJ Khaled is one of the Arabic rappers who raps in English. He has songs with Lil Wayne, Rick Ross and Akon. Other people are like Super Saian Crew, Satam and Abady who are Arabs and rap well. Rap music is a popular music in the Arab world because of globalization and it has affected the Arab culture and changed young Arab people.

Specially the blend of the Arabian and the English music has gave rise to a new genre of music that is quite unlike the conventional music in Arabia. This kind of music affects our culture, especially the young generation who grow up with it and not with Arab culture. The young generation is induced by this kind of music and they like it very much. This kind of music might let the person to speak out. People can say what they feel through this kind of music about surroundings. They will write their own words.

As a result this kind of music focuses on the freedom of speech. It is new way to express oneself musically. The increased freedom of expression is both good and bad for the society in many ways. Sometimes, people speak out too much in the name of freedom that hurts the feelings of others. Also, the culture that is resulting from the influence of this music compromises upon the religious and moral values of people. On the other hand, adopting this culture is a step to acquire the latest standards.

Media is of the important factors in our life. What some channels show is influencing people. MTV Arabia played a TV show called HipHopNa. This t v show was about hip hop music. The TV show was performed by Qusai a Saudi rapper who started his career in America. This show is doing a completion between rappers and the best one will get award. The show included free style and break dance which is common in Saudi Arabia now. ''For example, Saudi Arabia is home to the group Dark2Men, who competed in the HipHopNa reality show mentioned above.

In addition, break dancing "has become a popular pastime in the kingdom."2 (“Arabic hip hop”). When people become into this kind of music, they will be influenced by it. They might lose a part of the culture such as their music and dancing styles. Day by day they end up losing their traditional dance and music culture. In the beginning it seems easy and not worth to stop, but one day they will figure out their culture is gone which is too late to recover. Music is one of the most important assets of any culture and define a culture.

When the music change, it mean the culture change. The change of culture brings a change in the thinking of the people, and the whole nation change as a result. This is how change of music destroys the original taste of a culture. In this essay the author mentioned two kinds of effects. These effects of music and the media have both advantages and disadvantages. The music has largely resulted into increase social freedom. People freely express themselves through music. They might help us to speak and express what we feel through what we are interesting in.

Thus we can fight for our rights through music. This way, we can achieve our goals without hurting anyone. On the other hand they have disadvantages and it might be more the advantages such as losing our cultural identity. For every nation, cultural identity is extremely important to survive with the passage of time. The change of original Arabic music tells the extent to which the Arabian culture has been westernized. This is ruining the culture of Arabia. This author believes that globalization has both advantages and disadvantages.

In order to increase the advantages, the music listeners should be careful in their use of music. Listeners should not use music in such ways that are against the culture of Arabia. With slight effort, we can increase the advantages a lot. Work Cited: “Arabic hip hop”. Wapedia. n.d. Web. 12 Apr. 2011. . ''Arab Hip hop''. Wikipedia. n.d. Web. 12 Apr. 2011. .
