Soccer - Speech or Presentation Example

Recently, I read about a sprint race in which one of the runners fell down halfway. The others, seeing that racer fall, stopped and went back to him, picked him, and they all finished the race together. This race featured special children (Give a pause here, for effect). Ladies and gentlemen, sports are a part of life, which not only make life beautiful, but they also make life better. And football is the most popular of all sports, having the largest following in the world. Perhaps, the most beautiful thing about football is that you need almost nothing to play it.

It focuses less on the items, and more on the people who play it. Football is a life changer. As Pele, arguably the greatest footballer of all time, said, “I hope that all young people in the world are inspired by some of the positive lessons I learned in my life about overcoming obstacles, expressing creative flair, taking care of your health, and encouraging teamwork, loyalty and honesty. These are things that have an impact on, and beyond, the football field.” What I am saying today is not a radical new idea.

Organizations from around the world are seeing the impact that football has on the children of this world. Football Programs for Kids by KidsHealth.org and the African push for promoting sports under the banner letsplay.org are just a few examples of that. Why football? Because, in football, every person goes down at some time; it is up to him decide to get up and it is up to his teammates to tell him he is worth it – that he has to get up! This is what happens to everyone in life too. You fall.

You have to get up. Some people don’t get up at all. Some people get up slow. Some people get back up instantly. It is all about will. And it is all about whether someone can inspire you to get up or not. That is what football teaches you – to help others, to focus on what you need to do to get back up yourself, to train hard and play harder. Life is not just about tackling the obstacles you face, is it? (Pause here for a second or two) It is about asking of yourself, “What do I want to do?

What is it I can achieve?” (Pause here for a second or two again) Football, too, is about dreaming big, imagining what you want to achieve, and planning how you want to go about achieving your goals. The beauty of learning things about life through football is that football is a game, not a struggle for life; you learn a lot, but in a fun way. For troubled youths specially, who are struggling to find their worth in this world, football provides an opportunity for them to team up with others, share their own troubles and channel their energies positively.

When you are out on a football field, the troubles of your personal life are behind you; you train hard to better yourself; you work with your team; you go out there and enjoy the fruits of the hard work you put into your training and pat yourself on the back as you go into the locker room after the game. You shower, get a change of clothes, and say farewell to your friends. Then, as you head back home, your troubles come back, but now you can see how hard work can put troubles aside and make you valuable; football has made you understand your worth – maybe you are not Pele, but you are part of the team.

And that is the beauty of the game! It transcends into life. And that is why I want to conduct this research, to help all of us realize the role that sports can play in improving our lives, and especially those of the troubled, and to help further the efforts to promote football as a focused life changer in our society.
