A Masters in Physiology to Promote Health Care The disciplines in the sciences have an influence upon my career objective. My keen interest in the sciences motivated me to study hard on these subjects that garnered me excellent rating all throughout my primary and secondary schooling. My social background has also exposed me to the needs of the minority and underprivileged, especially in health care. Thus, all throughout my academic years and extracurricular activities, I rendered voluntary work for minority and underrepresented groups performing social and health care services.

My academic attainment and accomplishments in the field of sciences qualify me as the best candidate for a Master in Physiology. And completing a higher study in physiology would allow me to serve the underrepresented people through research and improved health care. Taking my career objective into the collegiate level, I completed a diploma course in General Sciences at Centennial College, Toronto in 2008; a summer study at All Saints University at the Commonwealth of Dominica on anatomy, physiology and organic chemistry in 2008; and a Bachelor Degree in Biology at the Division of Continuing Education, Harvard University, Boston in 2011.

A Master in Physiology requires laboratory and research work to which I am sufficiently prepared. I also have a working knowledge of organic and inorganic chemical reactions, as well excellent analytical research skills. In my Biology degree thesis entitled “Magnetically Targeted Drug Delivery,” I comprehensively explored and explained the concept of targeted drug delivery to cardiac valve transplants which deliver medication at low dosages directly to the target and therefore, causes minimal side effects to the rest of the body of the patient.

It was published online as well as in print (ISBN: 978-3-640-78592-6) in Germany. The laboratory and diagnostic tools skills I gained at Harvard University include Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR), Electrocardiography (ECG), gel electrophoresis, cell culture and plate development, recrystallization of soluble solids, Thin-layer and Flash Chromatography, spectrometry, reading of H-NMR data, distillation, drug synthesis, and pH gradient measurement. During my academic career, I assisted in organizing a health fare in Dominica which provided the local people the basic medical and sanitary advice along with a free soup kitchen.

In Boston I volunteered for Action for Boston Community Development (ABCD), which provides healthcare education for the underprivileged and minority neighborhoods. I represented ABCD and advocated for funding increase from the government, for which our team raised a sum higher by 15 percent that the previous solicitation of US$2.6 million. I also volunteered for ABCD’s subgroup Entre Nuestras Familias, as a peer leader and educational advisor. This program provides safe-sex education to high school students in minority communities.

In every little effort I could contribute to the minority and underrepresented communities, I continually render assistance to them through outreach programs. Presently, I am a volunteer worker, taking preliminary information, medical and medication history, and vital signs of patients, at the Endocrinology Department of Mount Sinai Hospital under the office of Dr. Walfish. I am the best candidate for a Master in Physiology program at the University of Toronto because of my strong academic background in biological and physiological sciences; knowledge in organ functioning, specifically on the cellular level; and scientifically grounded research and laboratory work.

I will utilize the knowledge I will gain from the degree in pursuing proactive research and to design new procedures that would advance the practices in the health care sector. I firmly believe that within 10 to 15 years, I would be able to produce valuable inputs for the health care sector that would benefit the people, particularly the underrepresented groups.
