The article was highlighting the fact that Google had been accused of promoting unfair competition by unduly restricting trade. Unreasonable restraint of trade is a legal issue in business.
The right to do business or put up a business has limitations provided by law. One of which is the prohibition against unfair competition. Unjustifiable restriction of a certain trade is one aspect of unfair competition. Established and big businesses are the ones most likely to have this tendency. Some desire to monopolize a certain type of business. They do not want any competitors. These businesses aim to maintain their market position. This is directly associated with business greed. Sometimes, they implement marketing strategies that weaken their new competitors.
As a result, the new businesses experience a substantial loss of profit. It will eventually choose to stop its operation. Governments of the world have been aware of this business reality. Thus, they issue business laws to promote fair competition. The latest accusation against Google can somehow illustrate the issue of unfair competition. It is a fact that Google is the most popular search engine available on the Web. If it is true that Google has been blocking advertisers from using the other search engines, then, Google would be guilty of unreasonable restraint of trade.
It is unfair for the company to limit the choice of advertisers in advertising their products and services. Google could not prohibit the right to avail of the services of the other search engines from the advertisers. None of the business laws in the United States has accorded this right to Google. This aspect remains a prerogative on the part of the US government. US business laws are designed to uphold fair competition in all areas of business. This goes to say that advertisers are free to choose which search engines are to be used to attract more clients.
This right has been reserved on their part to promote active and fair competition. Just like any other business, advertisers are allowed to employ ways to get more customers as long as it is legal. The prohibition to use other search engines manifests an intention to monopolize the internet search business. In such a case, Google company should be subjected to a thorough antitrust investigation. This should be a lesson for other search engine companies.
