Political Critiques of Articles Article It’s perturbing the things you get to come across the media about teenagers and what they are indulging in. Most often than not, they have negative implications on them and mostly their families who end up being torn apart and broken hearted. Just the other day, an Australian boy was convicted of drug possession in Indonesia. The conviction did not surprise me, what got to me was the fact that the boy was only fourteen years old! Fourteen is a very tender age and to think that this boy was abusing drugs just rips my heart out. It got me thinking that if I got this heart wrenching feeling about this piece of story that has attracted great publicity between the two countries, how do the mother, father, siblings, guardians, family and friends in general feel about this? This brings to question what would have gone wrong between the times of his conception till his puberty. Could it be bad parenting? Stress from home or school? Peer pressure? Or adventure? How and where did he get the drugs from? Not that I am naive but shouldn’t it bother us that children below the age of sixteen can easily access this drugs? The teenager is set to be released after being in custody from the 4th of October. The Australian government through its foreign minister said that securing his release was the number one priority, not that I disagree but shouldn’t the number one priority also be to find these people who sell these drugs to the minors? There is a record of people who have been caught with drugs in Bali, and not just ant people, but specifically Australians. Schapelle Corby an Australian was arrested in 2004 trying to smuggle marijuana into Bali using the case of her boogie board as the get through. She had 4.1 kilograms of marijuana. Her sentence wasn’t light as that of the fourteen year old boy, she is serving a 20year jail term. A year later, nine Australians were arrested with attempting to export eight kilograms of heroin through the same airport. They later came to be known as the “Bali nine”. Apparently, they are in jail. Doesn’t this bother the Australian government? It has happened three times which are on record. This clearly shows that it is a habit. What is the government doing about it? Article 2 Syria has become a bloody zone with the ongoing clashes in several cities resulting to many people being dead. The reason behind the terror that has gripped the region is simple, all Syria has to do is accept monitors, a demand being put across by the Arab league and if they deny they will face sanctions. The deadline has passed without Syria agreeing to those terms. President Bashar Assad’s government had been given a simple task of accepting and signing a protocol for an observer that would oversee a peace plan but no, they had to keep quiet on this issue and let fierce clashes erupt taking away innocent lives. Peace is what most leaders advocate for thus winning with a landslide that it is a good thing. Why does Bashar’s government agree with the Arab foreign ministers and take this anguish away from the people of Syria? Syria has already been suspended from the 22-member block, which is quite humiliating. Accusations fly from either party with the Syrian government making allegations that the Arab league is acting like a tool for the United States and other western governments. The media has gone ahead and said that the threat of the Arab sanctions is an unprecedented procedure that affects the Syrian people. While all this politics is going on they don’t see that innocent souls are dying, they are paying for the sins of others who continue living in their comfortable and beautiful homes. Since the eruptions, 3500 people have since died making it one of the bloodiest uprisings in the Arab world. The restriction of journalists in Syria clearly shows that the Syrian government is on the wrong. If it has nothing to hide then why wouldn’t it allow media coverage? There are numerous reports of human rights violation. Article 3 Crime is on the rise with an incidence taking place where a shopper would be dead after struggling with the assailants and he got shot. Just the thought that it could have been anyone or even you gives one the chills. The community around this location is most probably having insecurity issues. Although the police have made an arrest concerning this situation it doesn’t change the fact that there is a good person lying in the hospital with injuries inflicted by this people who were trying to rob him. Tony Philips was arrested in relation to that incident albeit his accomplices got away. Critically thinking, how many times has he and his colleagues done the same thing to different people who have suffered in their hands, maybe even died. The suspect was in possession of a gun and they had a getaway car hence putting the message across that they had done this before or had planned it. As much as the assailants are to blame wholly, I believe that the police officers who had been deployed in that area also have fault because they know it’s a 24hour operating store and so they should have been around because am sure there presence would have scared the offenders away. With one of the assailants in police custody, we should hope that the rest will be found and convicted. Despite all that commotion, the following day everything seemed normal with people doing their holiday shopping as usual. We are hoping that with the evidence from the surveillance cameras and the suspect in custody the police would solve the puzzle of the accomplices. Security should be enhanced at 24-hour operating venues just to guarantee safety to the consumers and customers. We should have a happy holiday season and not one where we will be worried for our safety. Article 4 Egyptians seem to be having trouble with the military government not being democratic. The United States had to intervene and ask them to hand power to civilian leaders. The leader the military chose was not satisfactory to the people. How do you choose a leader for the people without them participating in his election? The fact that the civilians are crying for the military rulers led by field Marshall Hussein Tantawi to step down indicates that the people do not have faith in them or trust them. They want people who they can relate with and are not in the military to run the country until a new leader is elected. The white house issued a statement saying that they believed Egypt’s transition to democracy must continue and that the transfer of power to civilian government should take place in a just and inclusive manner that responds with the aspirations of the Egyptian people. El- Ganzouri seemed to have already settled with his new status saying that the military had been given a lot of power than his predecessor, which brings me to my point, if he has been given more power than his predecessor wont it be more dangerous? He is an old man enough to be someone’s great grandfather because 78 years old is old. Old people need to give way to fresh blood and young people because the young people are the future of tomorrow. Apparently I am not the only one who holds these views. Egyptians should be given the choice to be democratic. Article 5 A park is open to members of the public and anyone can access it, it is just not prone to certain people who camp there and make it hard for people to enjoy themselves to the maximum as they should, so the move by Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa to mask them to evacuate was alright and I would back him up due to the sole fact that he is doing everything by the books and he is a good man. He took his time to talk to them for duration of time before gently asking them to leave. Sighting public health issues as the core of it is legit because there is no way a camp of 485 tents was sustainable in all aspects concerning public health. The park has to be cleaned, cleared and restored for the public to access. It was a kind gesture, with the donation of 50 beds to assist them during their relocation. The fact that the people are complaining saying that he cares for the grass more than people is really wrong since he is just doing his job. Since these people are complaining, I just wanted to know if they were planning to spend the rest of their lives in that park. People need to take life seriously. I think they should know that no matter how much they intend to protest they will never move back in. It is a private property! They should go look for work instead of wanting people to have pity on them. Article 6 Being a president is a big responsibility and one that doesn’t come easy without the peoples trust and no one knows it better than Mitt Romney. The polls haven’t changed to his favor, and when asked why? Most people come up with the same reason which is that he is not consistent, he routinely changes his views to suit political mood, with ambition his overriding principle. This is solid ground for the voters not to give him their votes because they want someone who is sure of what he wants and not someone who gets swayed by the tide. The most known inconsistency is about the matter of abortion. At one time he said that abortion was not wrong and that he supported it, then later on he retracted his statement and said that he does not believe in it. This leaves us to have little faith in him as a leader. A man is as good as his word, you need to be sure on what you want because as a leader you are looked upon by a lot of people. You just don’t tell people what they want to hear but you tell them what you believe in and what you think ought to be then in that way people have faith in you. The part where you don’t have a solid ground means, that, you will be listening to voices from outside instead of your inner being. Article 7 They say politics is a dirty game and this is evident with the politicians who keep blaming and pointing fingers at each other. It is quite clear that governor rick Perry was buying himself time with trying to delay the primary elections. It all has to do with maps, with the parties having their own side of the story. It all trickles down to political wrangles. Perry is seeking the republican nomination for president. Perry opposed the elections districts created by the three judge panel after the Hispanic voter rights group claimed maps drawn by state legislators were discriminatory, Texas said in a court filling The judge called for an immediate delay in state legislative primaries so the high court can review the panel’s work. Texas has some of the earliest primaries in the United States. Lawyers for the state told the San Antonio judges that there was no discrimination against Hispanics because their voters support minority candidate. Article 8 It is tough being the president of the United States when everywhere someone wants to kill you but you have no idea who it is, when, where and how and plus you have never talked to them. Most probably the suspect will be sentenced to life imprisonment after the attempt on the president. The suspect clearly described how he views Obama as the devil and he says that he is anti-Christ. It’s funny how the suspect says that the president is conspiring against him and that he should be taken care of. The first thing that you think when you here this kind of statement is that the suspect is delusional or has a mentality problem. Lucky the president wasn’t around when the shooting took place. Though the shooter is at large, it shows that the suspect wasn’t working alone. Security should be beefed up in light of all this security threats surrounding the president. The president’s family could also be at risk and hence security detail should be beefed up. Attempted killing of the president have been made and one unique incident where one journalist threw his shoe at George bush the then president but he was able to duck and the shoe missed. In politics you have no idea who is your foe. This must have been planned with a lot of preparation but by good luck it didn’t go through. The special agents should be on high alert all the time because anything can happen. Article 9 Rick Perry is quite a controversial fellow who knows how to get things done his way. He doesn’t see anything wrong with taking the tax payers money. He has made Texas to receive 53-67 billion. He decries the spending culture of Washington and because of this he is constantly railing against president Obama’s health care law and yet Texas has benefitted and taken a lot of money from both. Rick Perry says that Texas tax payers take a lot of money to Washington dc and so they have a right to get some of it back. The biggest injection of federal health reform money could come in 2014 when the medical expansion would take place. It’s not free to the state, Texas would have to pay $2.6 billion to $4.5 billion, depending how aggressive the state is in reaching out to find everyone whose eligible. but the feds will pay 100per cent of the states costs for the newly eligible people for the first three years, scaling back to 90percent by 2020 Article 10 President Obama’s constitutionality of health-care overhaul will be reviewed by the US Supreme Court which will influence the outcome of 2012 election and measure the degree of the federals government power. Both the Obama administration and the states say that the AIA, as the law is known, isn’t applicable to the health care statute. One federal appeals court disagreed and said judicial review of the law must wait until a fine is assessed in 2015. Obama’s legal team contends that much of the law could remain intact. Even so, the administration is joining the states in saying the court would also have to invalidate the so-called insurance reform provisions, which require insurers to issue a policy to anyone who applies and bar them from charging higher premiums to people with preexisting conditions. The justices said they also will hear arguments on a jurisdictional issue that potentially could prevent them from ruling on the substance of the law. The question centers on the Anti-Injunction Act, an 1867 law that bars courts from hearing challenges to taxes before they are collected. Works Cited Kramer, G. E. Understanding Political Events.
