When given the right opportunity with the support of one’s parents, I enrolled in Santa Barbara City College in 2009. I have always been conscientious and diligent in my studies that I maintained a GPA of 3.22. However, to expand one’s personal and academic perspectives, I plan to transfer to University of California by summer of 2012. I was impressed by the university’s commitment to provide “an exceptional learning environment that fulfills (students’) academic ambitions, intellectual passions and desire to experience cultural diversity at its richest” (University of California: International 1).
It is one’s personal contention that learning is most effective when the appropriate and conducive environment is designed to encourage students and academic practitioners from diverse cultural backgrounds to share their knowledge, talents and abilities. As I reflected on the course that I am most interested in, I was sure to pursue a course in economics. I like economics and I want to be an economic analyst, among anything else. The impetus that led me to this decision has been stirred by the entrepreneurial experiences of my parents.
I learned that enterprises could succeed and survive through the interplay of factors that operate in an active and collaborative environment. When I browsed through the UC Santa Barbara’s official website that provides information on the major description of the economics course, the contents confirmed my determination to pursue it. As disclosed, “the study of economics explains how people make choices and helps us understand societal and global issues” (University of California: Economics 1).
As contemporary global organizations have increasingly expanded their spheres and operations to different countries, the significant effects to various economies have contributed to continued growth and development. In this regard, I would like to be an active and instrumental contributor to the emerging growth of China, as it is perceived to become a global power in the near future. I realized that to be successful in one’s chosen field of endeavor, apart from the interest in the course, one should also be committed towards seeing oneself as part of the global workforce.
The field of economics would bring diverse opportunities ranging from becoming part of the roster of managerial leaders who are experts in both micro and macro factors that influence the organization’s performance. I also see myself as taking the path towards a career in the public sector where the responsibilities and accountabilities could be more challenging, yet surely rewarding. I could be involved in determining ways to improve revenues through tax reforms and policies that affect revenue generating activities.
I am intrigued by the way health care agencies operate and would be interested in evaluating health reform programs and budgets to make health benefits more accessible to a wider range of the population. My ultimate aim is to contribute towards improved applications of economic theories and concepts that are universally appealling and would be beneficial to governments and people on a global scale. I am convinced that economics, as a field of study, is significant and all-encompassing through various times and locations.
I also look forward to being given the privilege to hone other skills, aside from gaining the much needed
