Extract of sample "Nursing Code of Conduct and Ethics"

"Nursing Code of Conduct and Ethics" is a wonderful example of a paper on care. Like in any other profession, ethics is a fundamental component of the nursing profession. Nursing is majorly concerned with the wellbeing of the sick. It is concerned with the lessening of pain and the re-establishment of health in the care of individuals in society. The nursing code of ethics is in place to instill the requirement and duties that are required of any person entering the nursing profession. The code also compels a nurse to express nursing awareness and obligation to society.

Ethics dictate how individuals act in any organization or profession. The ethical conduct of a nurse is based on different provisions. A nurse should, in all professional interaction, practice empathy and esteem for the natural dignity of an individual without considering either the economic or the social status of the person they are serving (Nursing World, 2012). Neither should they consider the health problems of a person.

According to ethics, another provision is on the nurse’s primary commitment to the patient. A nurse should be able to commit first to the patient; a nurse should also not be involved in conflicting issues of interest with patients (Nursing World, 2012). They should be able to solve issues in the best way possible to safeguard a patient. A nurse should be cooperative for the effective addressing of health needs and issues.

A nurse according to ethical conduct should uphold the confidentiality and privacy of patient information. They are to protect their patients in every way possible. A nurse is also responsible for their nursing practice, judgment, and action (Nursing World, 2012). The health care services they offer are also their responsibility. Above this, nurses are expected to conduct themselves respectfully; they should be able to ensure professional growth and be competent at all times.

I agree with the professional code of nursing conduct because nurses are responsible for ensuring better health care. Health care is a very fundamental factor to every human and for it to be achieved in an efficient way the code has to be in place. Humans tend to side with or like other people more than others for various reasons. In the healthcare setting, this should never happen and considering those issues all people should be equal in relation to health matters.
