"Needs and Support for Older People" is a wonderful example of a paper on care. Old age entails the later part of life usually after youth and middle age. It is characterized by the inability to participate in the day-to-day activities of society, loneliness, and the rising risk for developing chronic diseases such as Arthritis, heart failure, and other old-age-related conditions. It is for these reasons that older people need close monitoring, care, and support in order to maintain their health and quality of living. After interviewing a close neighbor Moses Abdul aged 77, I was able to find out the aspects that older people need and value for a quality living which can be categorized into three; physical, social, and psychological aspects of well-being.

           Social aspects

For older people, relationships and social interactions seem to bring comfort and a number of psychological benefits. According to Moses who describes his life as happy since moving to a daycare center, interacting with new friends, participating in voluntary activities, watching television, listening to music, religious observance and other recommended activities have brought mental motivation and some sense of continuity with the earlier life.

Psychological

Being able to take key advice from trustworthy people and at the same time delegate, important decisions in life matters a lot for older people. In order to do this, they need to be in control of their lives which need guidance and support to help them adjust and adapt to a variety of changing circumstances.

Physical

Older people need to take regular physical exercise in order to avoid a range of health problems. This means that they need access to a suitable environment and facilities that enable them to carry out these activities. According to Moses outdoors in the garden and a routine walk enabled him to stay fit.

Hindrances

Older people need respectful, friendly, and appropriate support especially from familiar people which is not so in most cases due to fixed schedules and poor attitude from staff. People giving support especially the formal careers do not take their time to fully understand the needs of these old people too hence leads to inefficiency. Lack of money is also another hindrance due to the need for appropriate equipment and basic technology.

Conclusion

In order to ensure success in the care and support for older people in the community, there is a need for the government to increase more Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and also increase the allocation of funds to run these programs. This ensures easy access to these facilities and quality services from staff due to appropriate training.
