Why the DNP Program Is Important To My Personal and Professional Goals

My fundamental professional goal in nursing is to see myself helping in the implementation of evidence-based practice techniques that will boost the healthcare of the marginalized people in the country. Therefore, as I look forward to enhancing my future professional goals, the DNP will be of significant essentiality. Notably, this program is very special to anyone seeking to advance his career in nursing. It has been my dream to excel in the field of nursing, especially in learning more techniques on how to provide care to mentally disturbed individuals in society. In this case, earning a DNP will help me actualize this dream since I will become more proficient in the provision of mental health care. I will be able to gain skills and techniques in applying evidence-based practice to improve the health care outcomes of my patients. A DNP will further provide me with extensive and in-depth knowledge of dealing with mental health cases due to the numerous research works involved in the course.

Many doctorate programs can help someone achieve professional and personal goals. However, I am particularly interested in DNP because of various reasons which are in line with my career goals. Firstly, this program emphasizes scientific approaches for practice. In the nursing profession, sciences reflect the effectiveness of nursing practice. Therefore, the DNP breaks down the complexities of science and theories, which are critical for nursing practice. Thus enables students to apply this knowledge in their career practices. This means after successfully earning a DNP; I will be capable of incorporating the theories learned in class into real practice in mental health. In this case, I am much interested in this program more than any other study because it provides me with a stepping stone to the achievement of my dreams of becoming an excellent nurse in the field of psychiatric. I am also interested in DNP because I am a firm believer in the interprofessional approach in care delivery. I believe that caregivers need to work in unison across various departments to create an environment of adequate care for patients. The DNP is a known program for training nurses on the importance of the interprofessional approach and how to apply it. I am particularly engrossed in this program to increase my knowledge base on how to relate well with the other professionals towards improved care delivery, especially for the mentally distressed patients. This category of patients require a lot of attention from different fields; hence DNP will nature and enhance my skills in working with specialists from other departments. Finally, I am interested in this program because I want to be an advanced nurse, both professionally and educationally. I will be able to apply knowledge gained to solve some complex health care problems and improve care outcomes in the healthcare system. Many areas require evidence-based practice, and I believe that this doctorate program can adequately equip me with the necessary knowledge and techniques needed in evidence-based practice. Arguably, I desire to initiate a change in healthcare by implementing evidence-based care in mental health which has been challenging in my practice. Therefore, I chose this program over any other doctorate program because it is aligned with my professional dreams.

Over the last year, I have been working as a psychiatric mental health nurse, where I have been working with the underserved. In this profession, I have been able to interact with various mentally distressed patients and medical staff. Consequently, I have learned a lot about nursing practice, specifically in the field of mental health. This is because I have been practicing in this field for over a year, gaining substantial experience. My experiences as a psychiatric nurse have increased my desire for more knowledge as I look forward to bringing change in how mental healthcare is delivered. For this reason, I have opted to pursue the DNP programs. I look forward to being better in providing mental health care to the less fortunate people in the community. My greatest achievement will be the reduction of mentally ill patients under my care due to improved care services.

As I focus on mental health, the main interest, in this case, will be using text messaging to improve medication adherence and clinic attendance. Notably, text messaging can be an effective way of improving clinic attendance and medical adherence. First, text messaging is practical and highly accessible (Deyto, 2015). Many patients have electronic gadgets that can receive and send a text message where the phone is the most common gadget. A simple text message is more accessible to almost everyone, and the highest percentage of Americans can read a text. Those cannot read due to various problems can have their caregivers or relatives read for them. In this case, this is a very cheap and simple technology that can help in mental health treatment. Since text message is more accessible, mental health caregivers will frequently remind their patients about attending clinics or taking medications at the appropriate time (Anthony et al. 2019). The less fortunate population who cannot afford the advanced technology like the internet will have something to smile about since text message does not require internet connection. Secondly, text messaging is preferred to other platforms of communication. About 80 % of the mental health patients from the less fortunate population would prefer texting to communicate with their doctors (Deyto, 2015). Since mental health is critical, creating a platform that would see every patient being served well will be a significant boost and achievement in my professional goals.

I am eager to be a member of the DNP course and start the journey of professional success. I have full confidence in this program because it is within my goals and interests. The main objective of a qualified DNP is to improve patient care. In this case, I am so excited to become part of the team that spearheads improved care to patients, especially to a critical area like mental health.
