The reason is that situation difficult for the staff nurses because attending to dying patients triggers sad memories of the loss of her loved one. As a result, the staff nurse cannot get the hospice care and the directive for the patient because she is afraid the client's daughter will suffer the sadness she is experiencing. With kindness, empathy, and information on the patient, the charge nurse applies the decision that best benefits the client. He organizes for hospice care, a complete directive, and enables the patient to reach out to his daughter.

Emotion Intelligence Action Plan For the Staff NurseBased on the interaction observed with the client and the charge nurse, an emotional intelligence action plan will be vital for the staff nurse. The plan will encompass emotional reasoning, motivation, capacity, and self-awareness. With emotional logic, the nurse will judge how she feels when assessing her patients, and it can be a survival response for her to adjust. Motivation and capacity will develop the nurse's desire to maximize her ability to respond appropriately to overwhelming emotional situations.

Self-awareness will strengthen the power to maintain a positive attitude by creating an awareness of the individual's moods. With awareness, the nurse can guard her view accordingly and pick up on others' emotions and respond appropriately (Arnone, Cascio, & Parenti, 2019). With such, the social intelligence plan would help the nurse avoid getting hurt or hurting other people.Self-Compassion and Compassion towards OthersThe staff nurse can cultivate self-compassion and compassion for others by practicing mindfulness, empathizing, observing self-care, and practicing kindness.

With mindfulness, one strives to always be in the moment as one is aware of the things happening around them without labeling or judging (Maxwell, 2017). Empathizing involves sympathizing with the people in need and making conscious attempts to help their situation, implying the nurse can talk to the patients about what it is like to be in their position. By observing self-care, the nurse would acquire an inner transformation and heal her grief, enabling her to be more compassionate. Kindness encompasses being gentle to others and ourselves.

Thus, instead of worrying, the nurse would bestow compassion upon the patients.Alternative Responses from Both NurseAlternative responses from the staff nurse would be to politely inform the patient that she would connect him to a social worker and by showing personal interest. The staff nurse would then make sure she explains to the patient that a social worker is best placed to connect him with his child because they are trained to do so. Instead of leaving, the staff nurse would have shown some interest in the patient's request by asking further questions to establish trust and reinforce her relationship with the client.

The charge nurse would have talked with the staff nurse to understand the reason for her behavior and help her overcome the issues to better attend to the client. Also, the charge nurse would have reassured the patient that his needs would be catered for and acknowledge by the staff nurse.
