"Standardized Nursing Terminologies" is a perfect example of a paper on care. Standardized terminology in nursing refers to standard nomenclature, taxonomy, classification, or basically a language designed for use among professionals in the nursing field (Saranto & Kinnunen, 2009). These standardized terminologies are crucial in health care facilities, maintaining clarity, consistency, and accuracy in nursing practice. Usage of the terminologies can range from treatments, communication with the doctors, and even assessments of patients’ documents.

This paper is going to discuss how to inform the nurse in the scenario and other nurses on the importance of standardized nursing terminologies. I will also outline and elaborate on the benefits and challenges that come with these standardized nursing terminologies. It is of the essence for a nurse to understand the importance of standardized nursing terminologies has. However, how you communicate this information to them determines how well they understand the importance of these terminologies.

After seeking the nurses' audience, I would prefer to inform them in a formal meeting situation where I would make a presentation. From the very beginning, this will draw their attention and raise their intent to know more about the subject of standardized nursing terminologies. Before the presentation, I would do comprehensive research to be well equipped for any questions that could arise.During the presentation, I would show my passion for the subject matter and attempt to connect with the nurses (Now my audience).

This would help me to be more relaxed and to be myself, free of nervousness throughout the presentation. I would, in the course of the presentation, engage the nurses. For example, pose questions to them to keep them focused as well as active in the course of the presentation. I would also keep my presentation simple and concentrate on the core message I will be passing across. I would make effective use of my voice in the presentation by making sure that I am audible and consistent in my speech.

Last but not least, I would employ the use of non-verbal cues. Research has shown that at least 75% of communication is through non-verbal cues. The use of non-verbal cues would be achieved by smiling and making eye contact with the nurses. As a result, good rapport would be created between the nurses and me to help them connect with the subject of discussion. I would compliment the tone of my voice with body language when putting across the message. The use of confident and open gestures while naturally moving around the presentation arena would also help.

As mentioned earlier, the implementation of standardized nursing terminologies comes with benefits as well as challenges. I will now discuss the benefits then conclude with challenges. The use of standardized nursing terminologies enhances the communication aspect among nurses and even with other medical personnel in health facilities. This is an essential aspect of Medicare as a patient usually goes through the hands of more than one health practitioner. For instance, whenever a psychiatrist mentions the ‘chronic paranoid schizophrenia’ diagnosis, nurses and other health practitioners understand the diagnosis.

This is just an example of how crucial standardization of terminologies in the medical sector is.They also bring about an increase in the visibility interventions by nurses. Usage of standardized nursing terminologies will make it possible for nurses to express their contributions, especially as far as care for patients is concerned. For as long as nurses use informal notes when communicating with each other (verbally and even in writing), their work will remain somewhat invisible (Kenan, 2005).

Most importantly, standardized nursing terminologies bring about an improvement in inpatient care. It goes without saying that this should be the ultimate goal. Standardized nursing terminologies help nurses identify children’s chief complaints, for example. This raises the alarm for key intervention measures in society to avoid escalation of such complications. This, of course, cuts across many diseases and complications. Implementing standard terminologies in nursing has its challenges.

The Electronic Health Records sector is where the core of the difficulties lies. For standard terminologies to be applied, it has to be electronically integrated for it to be effective. Some nurses are not computer literate enough to manage this (Ullmann & Zott, 2019). There is also a high-cost implication in putting in place such a system. This then derails the process. Time is needed to be invested in documenting such standard terminologies. Lack of sufficient personnel to do this documentation also drags the whole process of standardizing nursing terminologies.

Nursing has, to an extent been underestimated. This hinders the value to consider the inclusion of documentation of nursing care (Kenan, 2005). There have also been poor policies to ensure sufficient improvements are made as far as the nursing profession is concerned. In conclusion, it goes without saying that standard terminologies are needed in the nursing profession. The relevant stakeholders should put necessary measures to ensure that the implementation of standard nursing terminologies does not stall.

Such actions would be, but not limited to, offering the needful computer training to nursing practitioners, availing funds to smoothen the process of implementing standard terminologies in nursing, and putting in place favorable policies to support this course of action.
