  • How long have you been a Nurse Executive, and what major changes have you seen in the Nurse -Executive role over the past five years?

I have been a charge nurse for nearly 15 years. Nevertheless, I have not been an administrative nurse. My leadership functions have involved operating as a superintendent answerable for the nursing unit. I began my profession as a clinical nurse, and while as a clinical nurse, I was advancing my practice as advanced to an Advanced Practice Nurse (APN). The following few years later, I returned to school to advance my training.

The main challenge has been recognizing and addressing the team when there is burnout. Establishing a way to measure it using data has significantly influenced how the nurses provide care for patients. This has necessitated me to spend my time and energy, tackling the problem by going out and talking to my unit about how they are feeling. It has become apparent to me that it is not sufficient to master my practice, but I've also to master how to lead my unit of highly trained nurses effectively.

  • In your opinion, what are the key competencies that Nursing Leaders at your level need today?

In my opinion, the key competencies to positively impact patient care and experience are motivation and team-building skills. Therefore there is a need to dismiss the idea of considering self as just a nurse rather strive to provide leadership in any given situation. Through motivation and team building as a leader, I'm able to create a healthy work environment through implementing practices that influence efficient staff performance.

  • What should the educational preparation be for the achievement of key competencies that Nursing Leaders at your level need?

The education preparation required me to acquire competency in nursing leadership is undertaking motivation and team-building training. This ensures I'm equipped with the ability to motivate and foster teamwork among the unit's nurses. Preparing a foundation for team building culture begins with high-quality training, which helps establish cohesive team collaboration.

  • What does it take to be an Employer of Choice for Nurses in today's Healthcare Environment?

An employer of choice should be prepared to allow nurses a chance to adjust between their professional and personal life. Such an employer perceives that nurses need time to restore their energy for a wholesome workforce. Additionally, nurses should also be availed of the opportunity for professional advancement through ventures like coaching, raise, and school scholarship.

Nevertheless, he understood that the perks surpass the constraints.

  • What changes, if any, will the Nursing Profession need to make to adapt to the Nursing Shortage?

The nursing profession is in short supply, especially as the nursing industry expanding, and therefore adopting ambulatory care is crucial to adapting to the shortage. Ambulatory care could expand care to the patients in the community, thus trying to prevent the need to admit patients to the hospital. Eventually, although a lot of patients require hospital, this rationale is aimed at ensuring that people are enthusiastic about learning to nurse and thus shifting things in this field in the short term. I offer a discerning and analytical approach to problems, determination, emotional aptitude, and devotedness to distinction to the executive leadership. Additionally, I have an outstanding recognition, I am culpable, and I show initiative. These are vital abilities for nurse administrators who have to operate in a demanding environment and stability between the patients' needs, the institution, and the nurses.

  • What key committees/boards/groups does a Nurse Executive in your organization need to participate in to have a major impact on decision making?

They should be closest to the community to provide access to affordable and safe patient-centred care. Providing essential healthcare services to vulnerable populations is at the foundation of nursing, thus ensuring the provision of healthcare regardless of religion, race, gender, ethnicity, or sexual orientation.

  • What issues/ challenges keep you awake at night in your role?

As people continue to change their expectations of healthcare, our work demographic is also changing in line with those demographic changes. The real difficulty is that we do not any of the nursing challenges individually; rather, we face them all together in a confluence. It is a situation that demands complex solutions to a set of complex problems.

  • If you were asked to give advice to a Nurse just beginning her career in Nursing Leadership based on your own experiences, what would that advice be?

A new nurse should be keen to discover and learn new information and receive guidance from superiors and colleagues. The nurse should appreciate that nursing is a comprehensive course that demands a devotion to education and an inherent desire to serve. With progress in their careers, they should attempt to explore as many possibilities to acquire knowledge and advance their professions.

  • What is your perception of population health?

It is really the development of community health. This brings a need to reflect on the metrics on the hospital dashboards that portray the health and welfare of a community. Healthcare dashboards reflect value-based purchasing measures that are tied to accountable care organizations. The reason why it is so important is that we all feel as though we want to contribute to the health and welfare of the communities.

  • Why did you get into nursing?

Way back, when everyone wanted to get into healthcare, I was motivated by the idea that I would get to do something right for patients and their families. This message has not changed a single bit for me until today.

  • Although we want to celebrate nursing, do we know enough about nurses and who they are and why they make such a difference?

I would say we don't, but campaigns such as the Johnson Johnson future for nursing has really helped to put nurses on the map by giving them recognition and understanding internationally about what nurses do all day.

  • How drastically do you feel that the field of nursing has changed since the Affordable Care Act I?

In terms of nursing, specifically, the opportunities for nursing have increased exponentially, although it is nowhere near the capability of staffing the hospitals or being out in the community. In terms of the overall healthcare, the care for patients has reached communities and homes as never before. This has enabled nurses to be more upfront and personal in families' lives.
