Clinical Aspect of Hand Washing Name Professor Course Date Learning strengths and Weaknesses My learning strengths includes being good in memorization. Having a good memory has helped me in various learning situations. For example in Mathematics and science, one should have a good memory because some formulas and calculations should be memorized. Strength is that I am curious in class. This has assisted me to be ahead of what is taught in class. After class, where the professor stopped, I worked hard to know what would come next. In the class, I am active and outgoing to the extent that I ask the tutor various questions to gain more ideas. This helps me to know many things, which I would miss when I become shy in class. In addition, I am self-driven when learning or doing any other task. I feel uncomfortable when some tasks or assignments are unfinished. In addition, I hate when I do not do my best in class or any activity during learning sessions. This makes me be self-driven and make sure that all my tasks are completed on time as required (Humphrey 1998, p. 193). My weakness is on writing essays especially test essays. This is true as I am not good in writing essays. I like short answer or multiple-choice questions. This is because short answer questions make sense to me as it has one right answer. Writing in a blog is easy as you write what you could say when someone asks a question. This is unlike in the essays where you have to compare things and give various reasons from different sources of knowledge. To improve my learning, I should teach others what I have learned. This is the best way to learn, as I will gain more from what I am teaching others. This is through working in groups and explaining to them what I have learned. Practical experience is another strategy to improve my learning in this semester. I have realized that I should not spend all of my time in reading books, searching in the web, and attending lectures. Instead, I should put in practice what I have learned as practical. In addition, I should understand how I could learn best. This is through recognizing my learning styles and habits. There are many theories about learning, which will help me to understand better how I can learn best. This includes Gardner’s theory of intelligence, which describes various types of intelligence that can show individual strengths. It also shows better learning strategies, which can work best for individuals. Student Interview I interviewed a student who is currently a third year undertaking nursing in the university. He explained to me the tricks and tactics he has been using in first and second year of his course. He told me that for a success in any course, assignments and any other class tasks should be submitted on time. He told me every time a tutor is taking them through the lesson he is taking short notes. The short notes will help him when revising what the tutor taught during his free time. The trick the student is using is to complete all the assignments before starting any revision (Oliver 2013, p. 158). From the interview in learned that I should complete my assignments in a timely manner. This is because I should fight to meet the deadline to submit the assignments and I can revise any time that I am free. From an interview, I realized that I should be active in class. This is through participation in asking and answering questions. This will give me more understanding on what is taught and learn tricks on how to answer exam questions. In addition, I should join group discussions with fellow students. This will help me to interact with different students and share ideas, experience, opinions, and knowledge from different sources. Apart from attending classes and discussions, I learned that I should exercise what I learned in my class practically. This is through participation in various fields of my study like hospitals, pharmaceuticals, and dispensaries. Thesis statements The spread of bacteria can be reduced by hand washing using germ-X and not only soap and water. Hand washing helps in protecting and preventing ourselves from the infections from germs making the community or nation healthier place live. Supporting Points Germ-X is affordable for everyone as it is not expensive. Germ-X is available everywhere even in rural areas. It does not have effects when used frequently. People living in urban or rural areas should use germ-X as it is effective more than soap and water. The retail price of the germ-X is affordable and all people irrespective of their wealth status can buy it. Germ-X is available to all people as it is distributed all over to be easily accessed. It is easy to use germ-x more than using soap. This is because germ-x does not need water and it can be used anywhere without water. This is better compared to the soap, which cannot work without water. Germ-x does not have any side effect on the skin. Some varieties of soaps create rushes on the skin when they are not used properly. The soaps can make the skin be dry and rough. Germ-x is better as it makes the skin be oily and smooth. Germ-x can be used by anybody irrespective of age, unlike the soaps, which can make baby’s skin react when it comes in contact. Unless on the circumstances where it is not used as recommended (Polk 2008, p. 231). Article Summary Hand washing is one of the effective, most affordable, and effective means of preventing, reducing, or even stopping the spread of infectious diseases. Due to frequent visits to toilets, children playing and working in farms, there are increased risks in the spread of infectious diseases. The purpose of this article was to improve the behaviors of hand washing in the community and school-going children. The purpose of the study is to have knowledge on the relationship between hand washing and germs. This will make both the adults and school-going children in the community to be aware of the dangers caused by dirty hands and its effects. This will make them avoid dirty hands and adopt the correct procedure of hand washing leading to a healthier environment to live. The implementation of the program was introduced through education programs on the importance of hand washing and dangers of dirty hands. The program includes the use of presentations, lectures, videos, and stories on hand washing. The effects of using education program were effective. This is because the frequency and correct procedure of hand washing increased in both children and adults in the community. The activity can also be implemented in the community by use of nurses working in the community. This is education programs conducted by nurses in a variety of public, adult, and childcare settings in their workstations. The effects of hand washing programs will reduce the healthcare costs. The costs include expenses incurred in hospital admissions, prescriptions, emergency visits, and health promotions. When effective and affordable hand washing programs are implemented, it will reduce antibiotic resistance, infectious diseases, and healthcare costs (Eshetu 2013, p. 91). Positive and effective healthcare promotions in the community like hand washing will be instilled on children when they become adults. This will improve the health of both children and adults in the community. Article Structure The article began with an abstract, which provided a thesis developed from the article together with the description of the major points. The article has short sentences, which were very easy to understand and constructive. The article had a few paragraphs, which it could not discourage the reader when going through the article. In addition, it was easy to connect statements and points in the article because there were no meaningless sentences and the whole document was not wordy. The article had only four sub-titles that described important ideas and points. The article was a research paper, which was conducted by an experienced author. The article had introduction, literature review, data collection, and data analysis. To make the article rich in facts, data collection was conducted in the field. The data collected were analyzed critically to obtain quality results of the article. After the analysis, results, conclusion, and recommendations were presented and later references at the end of the article. The results were used to arrive at the conclusion. Conclusion was derived by summarizing all the information discussed in the article. The article was qualitative as the conclusions and recommendations arrived at the end of the article were of high quality (Polk 2008, p. 63). The whole article was on PDF format to prevent any alterations by other people who are not the original authors. Evaluation of Authority, Currency, and Accuracy Evaluation, currency, and accuracy are the important factors, which determine the credibility of the article. The writer of this article is experienced and qualified individual who added more quality and credibility to the work presented in the article. The author of this article Sandra M. Annesi is lecturing at the University of North Florida. She has been a professor in various universities and she has conducted many nursing research projects about education programs on nursing and community health. Her articles have been accepted and they are published frequently on monthly and even weekly basis. In every two weeks, she comes up with a new article, which helps in delivering certain message to the readers. Her articles are of high quality and many readers await new articles. The article contains about 24 references, which demonstrate the accuracy of the article. The information provided by the references can be linked with other sources of information in an online context. Conclusion Hand washing education program should be conducted for both adults and children. It should be practiced in both schools and in the community. This will make the children access the programs on the school while adults can access it in the community level. Hand washing helps in reducing and even eliminating infectious diseases, which are brought by germs. This will help in reducing costs, which are incurred on treating diseases and awareness campaigns to educate people. The money saved will be used on other developments in the community.
