Over the last two decades, this problem has exponentially increased to high levels thus putting many individuals at risk of getting diseases like hypertension and diabetes among others (Sorof & Daniels, 2002). Additionally, obesity subjects individuals to endocrine disorders and metabolic disorders such as low vitamin D synthesis in the body.

This has led to increased morbidity in children thus increasing the burden on the countries health care system (Lobstein, Baur, & Uauy, 2004).ConclusionOverweight and obese children are at the highest risk of developing vitamin D deficiency and secondary hyperparathyroidism. It is, therefore, imperative to note that, obese children should be given vitamin D supplements to prevent them from developing vitamin D deficiency-related conditions.
