I believe nursing is a profession that revolves around saving, improving, and caring for individuals of all ages, families, and society. This includes individuals who are sick or well. In addition, nursing deals with health promotion, care of the sick, counseling, as well as the promotion of a safe environment. Moreover, a nurse is an individual who is highly skilled and practices the art of caring with scientific knowledge and skills that is acquired through education as well as career. Through nursing, individuals can work from a diverse range of settings including homes, hospitals, prisons, and homes (Cowling & Repede, 2010).

The community views nursing as a profession that addresses the many complex challenges faced in the community. Additionally, they are considered first responders in organizing and administering immediate care to the sick. Nurses reach, identify, and treat the sick in society. They also assist and help people living with chronic diseases like HIV and AIDS in an effort to manage their health problems and remain in their homes. The community views nurses as specialists in-home care, school, nursing at the corporate level, or selling of pharmaceutical products (Cowling & Repede, 2010). Moreover, nurses who work in a community setting, provide healthcare education through programs designed to decrease the spread of transmittable diseases, the use of tobacco as well as the provision of maternal health care education to prevent some of the present leading health problems.

For me becoming a nurse is a calling because I have always wanted to extend a helping hand to those who are suffering and making a difference in somebody’s life. Therefore for me, it is a form of giving back to society and through helping a get satisfaction with helping somebody’s life. In addition, my source of inspiration comes from an innate desire to help and care for the people who are in need. I also need a career that is challenging and I always strive to get new goals that I work hard to achieve. Therefore, nursing is a career that suits me as it offers many learning opportunities. Moreover, as a nurse, I will get the opportunity to relate to the medical staff, patients, and doctors. This will enable me to learn from other careers therefore expanding my knowledge as well as sharpening my interpersonal skills.

Yes, I am lucky to have had the pleasure of meeting some health care professionals who in return have inspired me and I know that I will work hard to match their skills, passion, and professionalism. I got to interact with some of these professionals while I was doing an internship at a local hospital.

Lastly, the nursing profession means a lot to me and this is the reason I want to increase my knowledge to become competitive in the market. I will be at the forefront helping the sick as well as provide quality services to my patients so they can smile once again and carry on with their own lives. I also like the fact that I am not limited to work in the hospitals alone, I can provide care in schools, homecare facilities as well as other government institutions. For those people who feel the need to help people in society then nursing is the profusion for them and they should work towards it.
