Strategic Analysis and Leadership Interventions Leadership has become an always changing process and analyzing one’s leadershipskills can assist to perfect our leadership style as learners in our situation, we are preparing to become leaders in one of the sensitive sector in nursing where many people’s chances to survive depends on. Being a leader requires one to have willingness and passion as leadership is associated with responsibilities to the sector one is assigned the role to play as a leader. Therefore, a leader should perform to the best of his or her strengths and work on the weaknesses. Effectiveness of overall organization performance depends on the resulting competency model used by the leader in a work analysis approach that would appropriately identify the information the organization needs to understand and improve leader performance. Overall, in any organization, dictatorial way of leadership is being practiced by the senior people in order to achieve their workload or for the purpose of self-gains. There is love for power and control, and this has hindered the performance in a workplace. Therefore, to analyze leadership in nursing sector, there is need to perform supervision often to ensure that patients enjoy all their rights during medication and the senior are not oppressive to their junior during work that could act as a reason most of the junior workers in nursing are not performing to their potential when offering services to the patients. Some of the models that can be used to analyze leadership in nursing would include: leader traits and skills and the attitude models. Therefore, using the work issue on love for power and control as I identified in unit two, I will analyze leadership in nursing sector by performance model using attitude trait to assess situations, events and outcome expected in the line of our duty as leaders in nursing industry. Attitude is one of the critical inspiration that will help to improve our nursing sector in our nation and worldwide. Our performance at work is greatly influenced by the kind of attitude that we pose towards the work we are doing. As nurses, we are exposed to critical situations especially by the unpredicted situations that the patients may come having. Some may come to the hospital almost dead due to sickness or accidents, others may be cruel as they address us while others may even be attempted to bribe us for our services. All these issues will depend on an overall attitude that we have towards our work so that we can give out our services effectively and have a positive outcome. Interventions useful for a Leader When Dealing with a Variety of Work Issues It is important to note that, long before we deploy any intervention, we need to know what performance will be needed in order patients can complement our services to them as nurses. a) Develop a positive attitude towards work as a nurse leader: as I have mention earlier, our work as nurses is very critical and sensitive as the whole world depend on our services for a second chance of living a healthy life. Therefore, the kind of attitude we possess towards our work determines our performance. We should ensure that we offer our services in a free and fair manner without showing any character of having love for power or control, for example, avoid practicing nepotism, taking bribes to offer better services to patients with money, set attainable goals as a nursing fraternity and treating the patients with willingness and passion. Having a positive attitude will increase efficiency and effectiveness in our work and have patients appreciating our services as our fruitful outcome. b) Strategizing the expectation to be achieved by various departments as the nursing organization mission and vision: having set goals to achieve gives a room for performance evaluation at the end of set period of the goal set. Therefore, as nurse leaders, we can keep our juniors in a motion of working with a set mind to achieve something in the end. This will help a nurse leader to deal with the issue of failure in performance in nursing when the set goals are not achieved and help to scrutinize and trace where the failure was encountered and contributed to achievement failure. Additionally, making correction as a leader becomes easier while rewards and punishment are administered according the success and failure of the nurses entrusted with the respective role respectively. c) Division of labor and specialization is another intervention needed to be practiced and emphasized by the nurse leader. Each nurse has a credential specialization professional that he or she graduated within his or her education achievement. Therefore, when these graduates are allocated to particular nursing industry, they should be allocated their role according to their specialization. This will improve performance of the allocated duties as a nurse and provide a positive outcome for excellent performance as the nurses perform their duties with adequate knowledge, skills and expertise (Betty, 2014). d) Show supportive teamwork, “two hands are better than one” and “Unity is Strength” Therefore, solidarity to working as a team should be the slogan to guide a nurse leader in order to improve performance and provide adequate services to the patients. It is always that the numbers of patients outnumber the number of nurses available in nursing institution. Therefore, as a nurse leader, to promote teamwork to prevent nurses from tiresome workload that may hinder their performance. Promoting teamwork will help a nurse leader to achieve the outcome of efficiency in service delivery to the patients by ensuring all receive treatment on time to avoid cases of death due to lack of on time medical attendance (Carter, 2010) e) Increase in the level of electronic health care where the patients can log in to the health care website and receive medical prescription from the nurses on the other far end of the way the nurse asks the patients the needed questions to guide him or her to determine the kind of treatment required. Online health care should be an effective intervention for a nurse leader to increase efficiency as it will increase the number of patients attended to avoid much case of loss of life due to urgency accident or sickness situations (Nancy, 2015). f) Identifying the role of every person in the nursing fraternity is another key intervention that needs to be addressed in the nursing industry. This is due to the several situations and events that arises in the line of duty especially the blame due to failure or in an occurrence of a single mistake. It is important to note that as a leader when our juniors fail, it corresponds to our failure. Therefore, failure in work should not be taken as an individual cause but a fraternity and this will show the sense of equal that exist in the workplace. It will avoid the situation where the junior works panicking due to the hostility of their leader as it would cause mistakes that can be avoided when one is confident at work. (McSherry, 2012) Overall, nursing as our profession requires total care as it entails dealing with one of the most valuable gift of mankind from God, and that is life. Therefore, as a nurse leader one is required to provide a conducive working environment for the nurses that will provide them with a positive attitude that they are at their right place of professionalism and their better services are expected by every living organism on earth.
