Nursing has always been my dream course. Over the years, my interest in the field has grown with the knowledge of what the course entails and the chance I will get to serve the society in a better way. The idea of becoming a nurse yielded in me long before I started my undergraduate studies. I would visit the hospital when taking my siblings or my friends for various medical checkups and I would be fascinated by the way the relatives trusted the nurses with the lives of their people. I decided one day I will also serve the society in a similar capacity and aid in saving a life and bring a smile to someone’s face.

Nurses are a pivotal group in society. Working at various levels which range from medical centers, nursing homes, and home nurses put the nurses in good positions to impact change in society. Therefore, nurses have a direct impact on peoples’ lives on a daily basis. Without nurses and other medical practitioners, we would be living in a dead and dying society. Unlike other fields where personal gains reign over service to the society, nursing is mainly referred to as a calling as one has to shelf his/her personal wants and dedicate their lives towards ensuring that the delivery of their services. At times a nurse will be forced to work at odd hours making the job quite entailing.

I love to work, over the years I have learned the art of taking responsibility and ensuring that I dedicate my knowledge and energy towards what am doing. I am attentive and sensitive to peoples’ needs which is core in the nursing profession. Being a nurse will therefore put me in a good position to not only understand their needs but also be in a position to address them. Though quite unappreciated by society, with the patients who recover and live a better working to boost the nurse’s morale. I am hardworking. Being a nurse, I need to work extra hard at odd hours if the situation dictates so. I have served people in various capacities and that has changed me significantly. I have realized the need to do positive things and help social change positively.

I need to be in a scientific profession that gives me the chance to embrace science and develop new ideas that can help in offering better service to the patients. Nursing offers exactly that. My skills and readiness to learn will ensure that I become a competent nurse in the future. Nurses’ work is interesting, starting from assessing the patients’ health problems and needs, developing and implementing nursing care plans, and maintaining medical records. I am therefore ready to take this challenge and work towards becoming a nurse. I have realized that money is not everything in choosing a profession. According to Cohen (2014), in the post ‘Why be a Nurse’, one’s responsibility to the world and satisfaction in what one does serves better. I feel that my satisfaction will be when I become a nurse and be in a position to serve society in the best way I can.
