Nursingchange in the health care delivery system Introduction In examining the health care delivery system and for it to undergo considerable change, nurse leadership skills have to be re-viewed. Despite their professional competence, the aspect of good leadership is very crucial for them to demonstrate their professional abilities effectively. Middleton (2014) explains that, nursing is a profession that is fast growing with lots of potentials. Several professionals and institutions are already willing and ready to invest in it. In this regard, those already in the field need to demonstrate high levels of articulation for their abilities. Secondly, the resources available for use have to be carefully managed. For this reason, excellent management skills have to be demonstrated for profitability. As a result, the clients would receive high level services and, therefore, good feedback would lead to increased referrals boosting growth in the end. Interpreting the implications of change in the health care delivery system on nurse It is imperative that nurses demonstrate authority of their abilities effectively. Firstly, they should be able to correct hitches they encounter in their daily undertakings in the best possible ways. They should be able to easily come up with new ways of doing things, innovating ways of tackling issues arising during their undertakings. In regard to giving out tasks to their juniors, they should be able to carefully choose the role that befits a certain individual. When it comes to disagreements, they have to be resolved professionally. Lastly, the professionals will, therefore, be required to be friendly, approachable with positive attitude and always ready to encourage their clients and other professionals in their lowest and difficult moments. Consequently, better policy formulation have to be put in place to ensure that each nurse has specific training with regard to their area of specialization and how to deal authoritatively with matters that would regard to giving direction. Forums have to be created where nurses from different specializations share their skills in order to broaden their scope of authority as they may be called to attend to matters from other specialties in order to maximize on their potentials. Comparing and contrasting characteristics, roles, and responsibilities of leaders and managers Managers in the nursing profession have special attributes that befit this profession for a better health care system. They always have mission for their institution. They will always strive to be the best high quality health care service provider in their region of operation. On matters of management, they would always ensure their employees work like a single unit. Being one unit ensures that bigger objectives are attained. Much is attained with a short period. Good managers pay greater attention to best ways of executing tasks (Scott 2012).They always evaluate each task individually and address any problems in each task. Role modelling is a task that they undertake in order to show with actions how each of the activity should be executed. In light of this, they set benchmarks for their employees, thereby ensuring that clients get value for their cash. The conditions under which workers are subjected as they execute their tasks are crucial. Good managers will ensure an appropriate the physical setting. With regard to how they communicate, it reflects that they care on how they address their juniors. This would in turn result in employees executing their tasks with ease, thus reducing chances of them making mistakes. Managers always ensure resources are well utilized and all records are accurately kept so that they are accounted for (Frankel, 2014). An important quality of a leader is the show of charge. This should be reflected in self-image and communications skills. A good self-image is a good impression to draw attention. As they go ahead to speak, they are audible enough, flow of speech, use of hands to explain certain concepts is louder. The body language says it all, in addition to asking and answering questions. They also seek opinions of others. Leaders are feeling for their audience and have their best interest at heart. Comparing and contrasting management and leadership qualities Managers have certain qualities that make them effective. It is their duty to look at almost every area, find the problem and their solutions. They are to use the best infrastructure to deal with challenges with regard to use of available resources for their enterprise. They will ensure that the enterprise has enough qualified staff for all the departments. With regard to time, they plan well to ensure objectives are met within a specified duration of time (In Cherry & In Jacob, 2014). Leaders on the other hand have also their special qualities as well. They are always interacting well with people. They are encouraging and patient. With regard to the welfare of their people and clients, they prioritize it. They always ensure that places of interaction are friendly. They ensure that relationships among people are good and that they regard each other well. Two of the competencies needed to be an effective leader nursing. Nursing profession is a very important specialty in the health care system. For this reason, those in charge of nursing units in health care institutions must demonstrate highest levels of leadership (Careau et al., 2014). The most basic quality for leader in nursing profession is communication skills. Patient’s welfare will be well managed if nurses are able to give or use the most accurate information. While interacting with the patients, they always demonstrate good communication skills using a good friendly and caring tone. This would make the patient feel comfortable and cared for. Encouraging patients in their most difficult, painful and challenging moments help to relieve pain. It should be noted that nurse spent most time with patients. In this regard, the recovery of a patient solely lies in her abilities to effectively communicate well and give accurate information about the patients in their custody. Secondly, nurses are supposed to confidently perform their duties to avoid suspicions from patients. While administering treatment or medication, they will do so with self-belief that it will help the patient recover or heal. Acting as if they are not sure of the medication can be very devastating and might aggravate the condition of a patient. This will have very negative effect on her professional ethics. They are called upon to belief to the patient that all is well and that they will recover soon, even if they know that the chances are slim. About nurse manager and leadership development program Gantz & Sigma Theta Tau International (2010) advocates for a number of areas that should be considered in nurse manager leadership program. To begin with, nursing profession is concerned with lives of people and, therefore, professional ethics have to be emphasized from time to time. For this reason, any nurse manager has to be reminded in any forum about it. In regard to integrity, they will be taught on how preserve the essence of nursing profession to humanity. Nurse Managers will also be required to learn financial management skills. This will enable them account for the resources at their disposal using financial skills. In addition, they are to have a team building session as well. Other areas to be included in the training are how to handle ambulance cases, management and leadership skills.
