"Distinctive Characteristics of a Servant Leader" is a great example of a paper on care. In the secular approach to leadership, there is an inherent belief that hard work will get you to the top and guarantee success. When I attained my registration to work as a nurse, I did not have much experience to take care of patients both in and out of a hospital care setting. I did not have much confidence in inpatient care because of my lack of experience. I knew I had to work hard to get used to the hospital setting, understand my duties, and the expectations that I have to fulfill and gain experience in inpatient care. My hard work has helped me gain experience, confidence, and understand all processes of patient care delivery expected of a nurse. Through hard work, I have become a charge nurse and gained the respect of other nurses at the institution. I was also promoted to Assistance nurse manager and still charging the unit.

The circumstances were challenging and difficult. Hard work involves thinking d functioning from an all-around perspective. I had to come to work early, organize myself for daylong responsibilities every day, interacting and responding to the needs of patients with different characteristics, observe the experienced nurses as they practice, follow instructions given to me by the head nurse and get through challenges with a positive attitude among other issues. This process was not easy and was frustrating at certain times. However, I had to push on because I had set my goals and wanted to achieve them by all means (Li, An, & Yin, 2013).

 I had a lot of influence on the outcome. Hard work means taking charge or being responsible for all the decisions that I make and the actions that I take no matter the situation. I had to be attentive and listen to the lead nurse and other professionals who had experience in nursing. I had to follow instructions and take all the mistakes and the negative comments positively. I had to stay focused at all times even when I was not confident. All this contributed to the outcome of hard work.

The above issues compare to the views of servant leadership in the sense that a servant leader has to listen to other people and take care of their needs. I had to listen to the lead nurse and other experienced nurses and their advice. I also had to listen to patients and respond to their needs. a servant leader has to be humble and respectful. Throughout my hard work, I had to be humble and respectful. Despite the fact that I had received education on patient care, I had to be humble and be taught by experienced nurses because education and experience are two different aspects but equally important for a nurse. I respected my colleagues and leaders even when we had conflicting ideologies. This helped throughout the process (DelHousaye, & Brewer, 2004).

In conclusion, hard work contributes to the growth and contributes to success in one's profession. Because of hard work, I am now an assistant nurse manager and still growing. I believe my hard work will contribute to my future professional and personal growth and successes.
