Extract of sample "Nursing Trends and Leadership"

"Nursing Trends and Leadership" is a perfect example of a paper on care. The reorganization that has been introduced in the department by the new director has brought about resentment from many of the nurses that I oversee because they were not included in the change. The first factor that may cause conflict is the failure to include the nurses. This can be managed by requesting the director to include the nurses in the change process because the change will affect. The second factor that may cause conflict is a lack of understanding of the nurses and the current situation from the new management. This can be managed by acting as a mediator between the nurses and the management to ensure that both groups reach an understanding of the current situation. The other factor that can cause conflict is hurrying the change process. This can be managed by calling for the new management to implement the change progressively as the team familiarizes them with the change (Stavrianopoulos, 2012).

Section 2

Personal affiliations and networking are important for nursing leaders because of several factors. First, personal affiliations provide nurses with friends that they can confide with when they are overwhelmed or when they experience compassion fatigue. The nursing profession exposes nurses to various experiences that may be overwhelming for them and having personal affiliations helps in these times. Networking is important for nurse leaders because it offers them a chance to share their experiences and learn new ways of doing things that enables them to become better decision-makers. Personal affiliations and networking help nursing leaders develop professionally by encouraging one another and helping each other develop confidence in nursing practice. personal affiliations and networking will help me develop in the nursing practice and be able to share my experiences and low moments thereby enabling me to become a better person and nurse practitioner (Yang, Lai, Chao, Chen, & Wang, 2009).

Section 3

Congresswoman Lois Capps represents California’s 24th District. The role of Congresswoman Lois Capps as an advocate for improving healthcare delivery is very important because she has contributed to the course in terms of advocating for policies,  at the federal level, that supports healthcare delivery. She represents the needs and interests of nurses at the federal level. She has sponsored some of the very important legislation advocating for better healthcare delivery. For example, she is the lead sponsor of The Patients’ Access to Treatment Act (H.R. 4209) that intends to limit the co-insurance, co-payments, and other cost-sharing requirements that insurance companies impose on patients that need special medication and intervention to treat life-threatening and chronic diseases (O'Dell, 2013).

Section 4

The CMS reimbursement rules for never events required a shift in the patient care delivery model in inpatient facilities. First, the rules required that hospitals follow recommendations to prevent hospital-acquired infections. CMS was directed to reduce payments to hospitals to discourage infections so that hospitals take responsibility in preventing hospital-acquired infections. The effect of the never event reimbursement guidelines was that the patient care delivery model would change to a state where medical practitioners and institutions are held liable for never events. This ensured that medical practitioners and institutions handle patients with care and ensure that the patient is well taken care of when in the hands of the medical practitioners (Lembitz, & Clarke, 2009).
