"Nursing Management: Issues and Ideas" is a wonderful example of a paper on care. As a new health care personnel, I have gained experience, especially in the quest to improve my communication in the work environment. The skills enable personnel to communicate with clients and patients within the health care settings (Kagan & Kagan 2011, p. 72). It is noteworthy that such skills helped in establishing a good relationship with them. I believe such a relationship is vital in the healthcare systems because it helps in reducing diagnostic errors. In addition, it helps in hastening the patients’ healing process because communication enhances emotional well-being. Apart from the patients’ well-being, my communication skills also enabled me to reassure the patients’ families emotionally. I did this especially when the patients’ conditions became worse. Through effective communication skills, I was able to make work easier by creating a good relationship with other workers in the hospital. A friendly work environment increases worker’s performances (Tomaian 2012, p.1).

The practical experiences gained in the healthcare institution included working in teams. I realized that high-quality healthcare is dependent on collaboration among workers in the healthcare system (Grader 2009, p. 1). I believe my good communication skills made me a good team player. Teamwork helped in making my team members’ work easier because tasks that seemed difficult and complex were made easier through teamwork. Due to my team leadership skills, I became a leader in the health institutions and allocated roles at the work place. The team leadership position made me gain more confidence. Many organizations value teamwork because it increases the quality of work. As a team, we were able to do more work compared to what I would do individually. This eventually improved patient care in the hospital. Teamwork also motivated me to work harder in order to ensure the success of my team.

My practical experiences also helped in strengthening my problem-solving skills. Through such skills, I was able to deal with some of the challenges I faced at the workplace. For instance, problem-solving skills enabled me to deal with the relative’s complaints and queries effectively. I was able to apply the theories learned in class when solving the problems (Williams & Wilkins 2008, p. 28). Teamwork contributed to my problems solving abilities because I actively participated in decision-making processes. My problem-solving abilities enabled me to address the bed issues in the hospital. I was able to liaise with other staff members in order to improve the condition of the wards. Moreover, I gained organizational skills because I learned to prioritize my work effectively. My ability to assess and evaluate situations enables my plan for the individual care of each patient effectively (Brown 2012, p. 38).

I also acquired other skills such as administering medications. It is important to learn this in healthcare because it helps nurses prevent medication errors which are among the leading cause of death in the country (Williams & Wilkins 2008, P. 28). In addition, I learned how to admit and discharge patients. I also learned how to inject medications using a syringe. I knew the procedure, though I did not have the confidence to give the injections.

Conclusively, nurses need to acquire knowledge about nursing theories. However, practical experience is also important. Applying the knowledge gained in class in a practical environment helps in increasing one’s confidence and problem-solving skills.
