An evidence-based practice committee is a panel of nursing and medical specialists who support the goal of an overall organization. This support is achievable by fostering a methodical strategy to pinpointing and integrating the most excellent and updated knowledge on patient care. In the process, the committee encourages the contribution of nurses within the organization through direct-care from evidence-based practice procedures and study works. Shared governance in nursing is partnered with work. This work may entail scheduling nurses, training new nurses, or executing evidence-based practices.
What are your feelings as you consider the first meeting of the committee?
Understanding certain terms of evidence-based practices in nursing are crucial for the meeting. For instance, clinical professionalism is the capacity to apply medical skills and background knowledge to pinpoint the health status of patients quickly. Without understanding this role of the term in nursing, nurses in new medical organizations may find hard pinpointing separate risks and advantages of likely interventions.
Where are you in Benner’s Model of Novice to Expert in your role as a nurse? Why?
I am in the third stage of Benner’s Model of Novice to Expert, which is competent. Currently, I am an ordinary nursing expert with less than three years of experience through an internship. As a result, I can comfortably depend on long-term objectives and missions to ascertain the elements of a medical situation that are vital and those that I can easily overlook. On the negative side, I am not fast and flexible enough in comparison to a proficient individual on Benner’s Model (Benner, 1984).
In what Benner’s phase are you as a student? Why?
As a student, I am in the advanced beginner phase. My novice to advanced beginner trajectory began in high school and took off in university. Currently, learning about approaches of reporting relationships between nurses and practitioners and nurses and patients, as well as both of their experiences inside and outside the organization should help me progress in Benner’s model (Benner, 1984). In addition, quality works outcomes are goals within reach through an effort at this phase.
Do you see your role as a nurse changing in your work environment now that you are studying Benner’s Model?
Yes. Now that I am studying Benner’s Model, my role as a nurse should change in my work environment. The sensible and purposeful planning that is integral in my nursing skills thus far aid in accomplishing quality work outcomes (Benner, 1984). This is because being in the competent phase shows I am not experienced enough to realize certain situations in terms of a general picture.
