Extract of sample "Nurse Johnson Interview"

"Nurse Johnson Interview" is a good example of a paper on care.
The RN interviewed Nurse Johnson who works in the pediatrics unit of the hospital. The nurse also volunteers sometimes in elderly people’s homes as a way to give back to society. She has always been a caring person about the welfare of other people ever since she can remember. Nursing was suggested to her by her parents as she did not know what career path to choose, and she immediately loved it. Her educational path was not as hard as she had pictured it, because she was eager to learn and know more about what was expected of her when she finally starts working. She was initially set on working for patients in the intensive care unit but her bubbly nature (which was evident throughout the interview) was better in the pediatrics unit.

Johnson mostly handles children between the age of 3 and 7 years admitted to the pediatric unit. She carries out physical examinations, administers, and follows up on their medication and recovery process, carries out immunizations in cases of influenza, and other diseases requiring immunizations among other responsibilities. She also assists with other children as well less who are than 3 years old. This happens in cases of staff shortage in the o other departments such as the neonatal unit and pediatric intensive care unit. Other than caring for the children, she counsels the parents of the children and especially the first time parents or the parents of extremely sick children. Counseling helps them understand the treatment progress and minimize their worries (Masters, 2014).

Johnsons states that since graduation, nursing has become a bit easier due to new technological innovations that assist them with the assessments and treatment. Globalization and the internet have also been a blessing to them. This is because they get to read the current research in the pediatric field which has been carried out in other countries, as well as links with nurses and swap information and experiences, which assists in keeping nursing lively and up to date. The internet has also made their work of handling parents of patients much harder. Parents come up with all types of diseases based on the symptoms their children may be having, and demand tests are made about the diseases and medical conditions they have got from the internet.

Maintaining and integrating the HIPAA rules in her work is not a hard task for Nurse Johnson. This is so because she was brought up being instilled with the discipline of maintaining confidentiality about her family life and secrets in their family. The first thing is to keep mum about the patient’s identity, even if medical discussions about the condition may arise and she participates unless she is discussing it with the guardians. The other way is she keeps the patients’ information protected in the computer using personal as well as hospital provided passwords for the general information. She holds the keys to the file patients’ cabinet, and restricts unsupervised access to the cabinet, to maintain the privacy of the patient’s health records.

Nurse Johnson’s interview about her work which she is passionate about, and even has numerous success stories has made me learn that being a nurse should not only be a career but a passion if one is to enjoy their responsibilities and their work in general. An RN should also choose a workstation they are comfortable in depending on their personality.
