Why I want to be a Family Nurse Practitioner
As a young nurse, while beginning my practice, I always felt the urge to act with competence that allows me to be a healer to the world, to provide primary care for the persons in need. Thus, from the experiences I have gained practicing nursing in the various settings and current place, I hold firsthand evidence of the disparities in the healthcare profession among the diverse social stratifications of the patients (Kaakinen, 2010). I hold the belief that primary healthcare is imperative for the patients in need. Thus, from this perspective, I realize that the specialization to guide me towards delivering primary care to patients is to become a Family Nurse Practitioner. Therefore, as a Family Nurse Practitioner, the program will permit me to assemble a bridge between bedside nursing practices and physicians (Kaakinen, 2010). The program will allow me to develop skills in advocacy and support as a nurse, thus allowing me to help patients gain access to facilities of primary healthcare while I facilitate the services to them. Additionally, in family care practice, the opportunity to engage the patients within a variety of clinics, hospitals, private homes, and urgent care centers will help me to develop improved flexibility and responsibility in the practice; hence, helping me grow professionally.
Another notable aspect of taking the Family Nurse Practice is that it will create a sense of autonomy, which will help in furthering my career growth, as well as, developing personalized care procedures for the patients. This is considering that, as a Family Nurse Practitioner, I will have the opportunity to engage the patients, some from their childhood, and others for long-terms (Kaakinen, 2010). Thus, these aspects of autonomy will help in facilitating better care for these patients as well as, increasing the personal satisfaction of practice as a nurse. Moreover, as a Family Nurse Practitioner, I will have the capacity to operate as a family doctor, engaging the patient throughout their lives (Kaakinen, 2010). This will allow me to facilitate aspects of diagnosing illnesses, doing the tests, and prescribing treatment. Thus, as an intending advocate for change in the healthcare service; in addition to, the ambitions I have to create personalized care facilities for the patients, the Family Nurse Practitioner course will help me grow towards these objectives. Therefore, I seek to further my career focusing on the primary care aspects thereby, improving the overall wellbeing of the community.
