"Selye’s Adaptation Theory" is a perfect example of a paper on care. Selye is known for the introduction of the General Adaptation Syndrome; this has been considered one of the most imperative theories in the field of nursing. Selye’s theory focuses on three major phases of stress that are believed to be a major cause of the disease (Selye, 1980). According to Selye, stress is one of the causes of chronic diseases, in the sense that long-term stress may lead to chronic diseases. In his research, he deduced that the human body responds to external biological facets (Stress) in various ways. Selye asserts that the manner through, which the body reacts to such stress, is usually in a predictable biological pattern in order to facilitate the restoration of normal body homeostasis (Selye, 1980).

In the General Adaptation Syndrome, Selye also asserts that in the process of responding to external stress it undergoes, various stages: The first stage is the Alarm stage; where the body immediately responds to the external stress and prepares bodily mechanisms to deal with it. The second stage is the resistance stage, where the body undergoes homeostasis to restore normal bodily functions. Consequently, there is also the exhaustion stage where the body becomes tired of resisting external stress undergoes burnout.

Research has indicated that the application of Selye’s Theory has been applied in the learning of issues ascribed to stress among medical practitioners. That is, it is a theory that has been greatly applied in the effort to comprehend various stages of stress i.e. external environmental stress and the body reacts to them. This knowledge has enabled many health practitioners to understand the processes of stress within the human body hence facilitating the formulation of appropriate treatment methods.

Nursing should borrow theories from other disciplines. Research has indicated that solutions solved through a multi-disciplinary approach are usually more effective than those undertaken through one discipline. In addition, researchers have argued that nursing is a holistic discipline that is composed of different forms of knowledge from various disciplines; this has been attributed to the instances of success that have been seen in the field of nursing practice. Moreover, it is evident that there is a close relationship between various health issues i.e. emotional aspects of human, physical, environment, biological as well as cognitive aspects of the body (Lovallo & Lovallo, 2005): Taking the magnitude of the relationship of these health aspects into consideration, it is apparent that nurses require knowledge from other disciplines i.e. those that explain emotional aspects in order to facilitate their efforts directed towards solving health challenges that may arise from a combination of these health challenges. In addition, it is pertinent for nurses to borrow ideas from theories related to other subjects; this is due to the fact that nursing is a wide discipline that involves studying and understanding of any issue ascribed to human well-being (Lovallo & Lovallo. 2005). Thus, researchers have argued that it is critical for nurses to borrow ideas from these fields in order to understand and solve associated health issues. Understanding various theories from other disciplines is crucial not only for nursing practices but also for solving other associated social challenges i.e. emotional challenges that may arise from social poverty.
