In evidence-based practice, however, there is an even deeper analysis of facts before treatment options are determined (Melnyk and Fineout-Overholt, 2011). Medical practitioners will analyze different medical studies and even conduct an integrative review. It is only then that the best course for treatment for a patient will be determined.

The similarities between the research utilization models

There are different research utilization models like the Iowa Model of Research in Practice, CURN (Conduct and Utilization of Research in Nursing), Stetler/Marram Model, and Collaborative Research Utilization Model (Armola, Bourgalt, Halm, Board, Bucker, Harrington, Heafey, Lee, Shellner, & Medina, 2009). Another difference has to do with the ease with which the different models can be used. The Iowa model, for instance, has an intuitive design that makes it easy for medical practitioners with various levels of experience to be able to comprehend and utilize it. The Stetler model, on the other hand, is quite complex and may prove difficult for nurses to understand or use accurately (Doody & Doody, 2011).

These models all have similar attributes in regard to the delivery of quality healthcare initiatives. All of these models tend to emphasize the importance of gathering evidence and assessing past changes in the evaluations of treatment options before deciding on the best option for a patient. In addition, in each of these models, there is an emphasis on the importance of regards to developing valid and reliable treatment options. Instrumental research utilization actually implements the direct use of research knowledge in clinical practice, with the research findings being translated into useable material like guidelines or strategies for the medical sector. The conceptual research utilization also makes use of research to challenge the beliefs of medical practitioners. This use of empirical support prior to determining the best course of treatment is an additional characteristic of all the models of research utilization. Research utilization models have successfully created a large pool of information for medical practitioners who can learn which treatment works and which one does not. Its basic intent is to provide a standard of healthcare that seeks to comprehensively tackle existing deficits inpatient care.
