"Family Nurse Practitioner" is a brilliant example of a paper on care. There are a variety of elements that contribute to my desire to become a nurse practitioner. When I reflect on my interest in nursing I recognize the seeds of my passion for my earliest childhood activities. As a child, I always enjoyed playacting in situations where I was a helper – a teacher, a doctor, and of course a nurse. This interest extended into my adolescence as I sought out volunteer work that placed me in these situations. For instance, I always enjoyed tutoring other students. In activities and classes, I always found that I fit in as an individual that helped out the new or outsider students. Not only did it give me the joy to do so, but I also found it an intrinsic aspect of my being. Ultimately then, I didn’t decide to become a nurse practitioner it found me.

While I was instinctually drawn to the nursing profession, I recognize there are many elements within this field that have held my interests and sparked my passion. Perhaps the most overarching consideration is my belief that helping others is one of the core contributing factors to human happiness and mental health. In this sense, I believe that love, understanding, and empathy are among the highest human virtues. Nursing then offers practitioners not merely a profession, but also the ability to go to work each day with great meaning, purpose, and commitment.

My philosophy of graduate nursing education spans an array of elements. I recognize that to a large extent graduate nursing education operates within the spectrum of traditional pedagogy. This way I believe that nursing education directly prepares the student for their later professional experience. Namely, by successfully completing nursing education one prepares to become a nurse practitioner, clinical nurse specialist, nurse educator, nurse administrator, or doctoral study candidate. Specifically, my intention in pursuing this education is to become a nurse practitioner. While I recognize actual nursing experience is a highly important factor in the nursing education journey, I believe the comprehensive education process is highly significant. In this sense, I recognize a highly important aspect of graduate nursing education is an advanced study in human health and development. This includes the examination of nursing’s role in providing health care options and services to both individuals and communities.

Nursing education then represents the dissemination of the best nursing practices that have been developed and collated within society. Within my personal philosophy I believe that it is not simply the student’s responsibility to learn these practices, but to incorporate them into their own approach to nursing on a deep and intimate level. This process requires the student to think independently and critically about the core concepts within the education process. In the process of learning these elements, the student must concomitantly incorporate them into their own nursing practices. In entering graduate nursing education I recognize that my personal journey will involve the incorporation of work experience and health care knowledge into my own talents and aptitudes.
