The Influence of Mission and Vision on Planning al Affiliation) The mission and vision ments play a major role in planning and strategic management process in all types of organizations. These statements reflect the values and beliefs of managers and employees and in addition provide focus and direction to the employees (Totten & Curran, 2010. The mission statements effectively articulate the organization’s purpose by indicating the company philosophy, the target market, their growth, survival and profitability and the desired public image.

For profit health care organizations like Avon Products Inc, the mission and vision statements advocates for an increase is shareholders’ wealth through excellent care services (Avon Products Inc, 2010). For non-profit health care organizations like Hospital Corporation of America, the mission and vision statements aims at making health care available, high quality and cost effective (Hospital Corporation of America, 2010). For other organizations outside health care like, Patagonia, Inc has a mission statement that advocates for market success and social well-being like conserving the environment (Patagonia, Inc., 2015).Vision statements effectively reflect future aims through projections of five to ten years.

A strategic plan is implemented which shows the expected performance of the organization in the specific time. The mission and vision statements convey the groups the organizations serve or the target market and at the same time indicate the various obligations to the various stakeholders. The statements are and should be of appropriate length, clear, memorable, and concise (Shoestring Creative Group, 2014).What I learn about how leaders in health care and in other industries envision and convey mission and vision is that before writing a mission or a vision statement, one must have an idea of the future and goals of the company since the statements act as communication tool to the customers and stakeholders.

The interdisciplinary nature of designing mission and vision statements of the organization is describing the company’s objectives, target group, and how to achieve its objectives. Mission and vision statements influence planning by showing the direction and focus of the company together with taking into account the resources needed to accomplish the set objectives. The statements are useful for day-to-day operations of an organization in enhancing the performance of the organization (Darbi, 2012).
