It is based on the principle that T-Mobile supplies an innovative infrastructure to aid the development of various innovative communication services and applications for mobile networks and internet access. It will be an incubation Centre open to all customers. T-Mobile will offer the developers all the logistical and technological support that is required to fulfill their ideas. The services should resonate to the local needs of the locals and work towards eliminating the constraints existing in the local environment. The projects partners will be picked on the basis of their innovative idea with regards to telecommunication services, technological competencies and the projects credibility. The partners will be trained on the use of T-Mobile platform and will also get the support on the integration and testing of the services and applications designed. At the project closure, the chosen partners will be certified by T-Mobile which will engage them further in a closer collaboration. The collaboration might entail the designing products for the service operators and communication networks. The designed systems might also be exported to other communication firms and even government agencies. In all the incidences, the partners will be the sole proprietors of their applications and ideas developed. The project will be set within T-Mobile’s regional offices from Middle East and Africa. It will be open for the ideas submitted by the partners across the region. The project will be launched in the second quarter of 2015 for an initial period of 18 months. The projects overall budget will be USD500,000. Objectives The main projects objective is to see the development and enrichment of applications and services that can be delivered through T-Mobile‘s telecommunication networks and the internet within Middle East and Africa regions. The company intends to support local partners in their countries and who are aware of the local environment and needs of the people in the technology application platform. The objective is justified by its technological knowhow that makes it possible and that the designed applications and services will increase the revenue collected besides justifying the extensions of the internet access and telecom infrastructure towards the areas they serve. There is unexplored talent in the area with a myriad of these countries currently regarding the development of applications and services leveraging on the internet and telecom networks as a way of seeing rapid economic growth. The project seeks to support the local partners to achieve their dream and use them to transform the lives of the locals. The result of the initiative will be a win-win situation for the partners, T-Mobile, and locals. (Liu, 2009) The locals will be able to access health, education and government data from a click of a button. The network operators will benefit from the revenue from the sale of their services The people living in areas which are undersigned will access the services they were not able to access before. Background and Justification As stated in the Millennium Development Goals, technological enhancement is at the Centre of economic growth of a myriad of economies across the globe. The quest to bridge the digital divide amongst countries across the globe is a challenge to various governments and the role of the private sector cannot be assumed. Building the local’s capacity is one of the main ways through which the gap can be reduced. With continuous struggle for a market share in a myriad of developing countries, T-Mobile support to the project will be a perfect way to appeal to the locals. Being a leader in telecommunication responsibility, T-Mobile has also a responsibility to play fundamental role in bridging the gap. Therefore the project will be a superb opportunity to show its internal collaboration and a strategy to expand its services to the locals in these areas. (Kerzner, 2001) Project description The first phase will be the preliminary phase/Initiation stage. During this phase there will be the installation of the technical platform for the development of the application and services in South Africa. There will also be the selection of the committee members. (Campbell, 2008) The second phase is the development and the validation phase- The partners will begin to use the Centre to develop the applications The third phase is the co-marketing stage- After the agreement T-Mobile and the partners will market the products together. The last stage is the pilot phase stage- Partners will use the platform to deliver the services to specific network operator. Evaluation Expected Accomplishments Indicators of achievement The establishment of the Centre by the third quarter of 205 in Johannesburg in South Africa. The number of incubated projects during 18 months with the technical validation and implementation Socio-economic improvement of the digital conditions of the people in rural areas Number of incubated projects selected the network providers in the region The number of incubated projects that are changing the lives of the people Budget Activity Cost in USD Setting up the Centre 300,000 Infrastructure requirements 50,000 Consultants and staff fees 50,000 Logistical support and contingency fees 100,000 Managers Response The digital requirement is a big requirement in a number of developing countries across the globe. It is no doubt that the gap needs to be reduced by the major players like T-Mobile. With the benefits that the firm will accrue, it is likely that the board will embrace the idea. Strengths and weakness The main strength is that the project is launched in the developing countries and it gives the locals and opportunity to participate in it.
