VARK Analysis Paper Summary of Learning Style Learning style describes individuals consistent style of perceiving, digesting and keeping in mind new information (Fleming, 2006). According to the VARK questionnaires personal scores of Visual scoring 5, Aural score of 4, Read/Write scoring 2, Kinesthetic scoring 8, the predominant learning style is Kinesthetic. Kinesthetic learners must be actively doing a physical activity while learning. The learning style applies the hands-on learning method (Fleming, 2006).
The second suggestive style is the Visual style in which the students must keep an eye on teacher’s body language and facial experience to understand the content. Aural style then scores closely, with the style students, get best through verbal interactions. The Read/Write scores far little marks.Preferred Learning Strategies Underlining, highlighting, makes rough notes, while reading to allow full understanding of the contents. Keeping legs bouncing up and down during long lectures to stay focused.
Always join study groups for joint discussions to allow further understanding of the class notes and boosting those learned during individual studies. Actively participate during practical classes to learn by doing. To avoid boredom during separate studies prefer listening to music.Comparing Preferred Learning Style with the VARK Identified Learning strategies identified by VARK for the kinesthetic learners that relate to the preferred strategies include, staying actively involved in class, taking short notes, while in class.
The schemes closely link to the strategy of active participation during studies (Fleming, 2006). According to VARK, kinesthetic students actively engage in class more so during practical or during question sessions, this emphasizes active involvement in class and during group discussions (Fleming, 2006). Kinesthetic learners prefer reading while walking, read out loudly and always work while standing. The aforementioned strategies explain bouncing up and down behavior during class sessions.Significance of Understanding Learning Styles Understanding learning styles is important for both students and teachers in the process of development and carrying out their learning process (Pietersen, 2013).
Majority of the students in the current educational institutions are multimodal, they diversify and benefit from the supplementary metacognitive awareness and self-examination that knowledge and understanding the learning styles can bring. Having knowledge of the learning styles and bearing in mind their impact on learning environments are first stages toward a vital understanding of our students (Allen, Scheve & Nieter, 2010). Learning styles information help in creating an effective learner analysis that will enlighten design choices throughout the development and carrying out of a course.
Learning Styles are significant basics for teachers and students to deliberate for any learning environment. A good understanding of the learning styles helps the teachers to understand the teaching appropriate for the student preference (Allen, Scheve & Nieter, 2010). The Visual, Aural, Reading/Writing, Kinesthetic VARK tool is easy to manage, and the results can influence the effectiveness and quality of the learning environment. Students and tutors should consider the possible impression of accounting for learning styles through a simplified administration of the VARK instrument (Allen, Scheve & Nieter, 2010).
The mechanism is simple and fast and provides valuable information that is useful in creating and effective learning environment for the students. ReferencesAllen, K., Scheve, J., & Nieter, V.
