This program focuses on molding individuals who are interested in becoming nurses by imparting to them better communication skill, leadership skills, and scientific inquire skills, thus enabling them to work effectively in medical center. Bachelor of Science in nursing helps individuals to provide more logical patient care, hence enabling them to take more leadership obligation in an array of health-care settings. Personal and professional goals for pursuing Bachelor of Science in nursing The central goals why I am interested in pursuing the BSN is to satisfy my life-long desire to be a nurse. Interestingly, since my childhood and when I was a fifth-grade student, I have been volunteering to help the elderly people at home and this motivate me to become a qualified nurse in the forthcoming future. In 2007, I graduated at Borough Community College and indeed I was proud and saw the day as magnificent. I am presently practicing at a hospital, in the medical care unit, as a registered nurse of day staff. Working as a nurse demands a high degree of devotion and I must acknowledge that nursing is an inspiring job that suits my personality impeccably. Therefore, I wish to return to school, thus achieving my lifelong dream of obtaining a bachelor degree in nursing for this will help me reach my full potential both as a nurse and as a person. I also want to be a well efficient nurse and since education makes a significant impact on the competency of nursing professionals, I find it essential to advance my level of edification by pursuing a BSN. In present-day world nurses must learn new knowledge, skills, and experiences which will enable them to transform healthcare practices in medical centers. During my studies, I would like to learn new knowledge such as being able to recognize diseases process, patient surveillances, and preventing mistakes. I will also like to learn skills such as caring toward my patients as it is an indispensable trait for nurses to eliminate worries in patients by offering effective guidance and psychotherapy. Caring was noted as factor that increases competence of nurses by certifying that nurses will appropriately evaluate patients and perform dexterously. In gaining new experience, the institution has to strive in emphasizing on critical thinking skills, leadership, and scientific inquiry skill for this are crucial in making learner develop experience necessary in work place (Blais & Hayes, 2011). Therefore, I aim at a pursuit of advancing my nursing skills and set my professional goals by further developing my understanding of nursing practice and critical thinking skills. This is in line with the BSN program mission that promotes the advancement of education among RNs to enable them provide comprehensive and evidence-based nursing care. Expectations of the nursing professional My perception of nursing since childhood was to help people through their ailment in a skilled, professional, and in a respectable manner. Now, as a college graduate, and also as a practicing nurse, I have to understand that being a nurse requires poised leaders and individuals who can promote wellness and balance of spirit, body and mind. Given a chance to pursue a bachelor degree in nursing, my main goal is to attain the knowledge, communication skills, and confidence necessary in making me be an effective nurse with leadership skills required in the contemporary world (American Nursing Association, 2014). It is fundamental for a nurse to remain well informed and be open to cultural trends and to medical competency. This is one of the expectations of the nursing professional in order for them to facilitate efficiency in job place and also in assisting people to heal thus achieving optimal health. Therefore, I prefer SUNY Empire State College as a better place of pursuing my goal as the institution emphasis on critical thinking skills, leadership, and scientific inquiry. I recognized that there are areas I am in need of including critical thinking skills, leadership skills, and scientific inquiry skills that strengthen nurse’s effectiveness and this is why I desire to pursue my high education in your institution as all these critical skills are plentifully offered at SUNY Empire State College. Describe the professional expectations of the nurse with a baccalaureate degree. Professional standers differ across nursing specialties, but there is a general professional expectation of nurse. Nurses with a baccalaureate degree must show competence; which include ethics, knowledge, and accountability for one’s actions thus enabling nurse to act in a professionally acceptable manner. What’s more, nursing professionals needs to keep association with other care professionals such as pharmacists, physical therapists, and physicians as this will help nurses to maintain a high level of proficiency (Blais & Hayes, 2011). Therefore, it is necessary for a nurse to act professional by embracing and displaying highly effective communication skill, leadership skills and scientific inquire skill to create standard of practices for the care of patients’ safety. Professional opportunities available to the nurse with a baccalaureate degree A nurse with a baccalaureate degree has many opportunities such as working in various hospital departments such as oncology, surgical, extended-care facilities, intensive care, and community health clinics (Blais & Hayes, 2011). I believe that through an amalgamation of theoretical learning, active discussion, and experience, a formal enrolment and participation in a baccalaureate degree program will make me realize some of these Professional opportunities that are available to the nurse with a baccalaureate degree.
