Thus, as an approach to the procedural critique, this study evaluates the article form a section to section, reviewing all the fundamental aspects of the comparative analysis report as contained in the article. Further, in the review process, this critique evaluates the writing and research ability of authors of the article as it presents a review of the elements of analysis as applied in the article (Polit & Beck, 2014). Thus, the thesis is that this article adheres and observes all the elemental information expected in each section of the article presentation. The abstract The abstract of the article presents a structured approach to the entire article as it presents a detailed explanation of section-by-section of the article. The article incorporates the various elements accordingly, revealing the relevant information to the reader as expected. This abstract, for instance, has the objective, in which it directly states the objective of the article as to develop a comparative analysis of the vital signs of patients after cardiac surgery, as well as, the nursing procedures. Further, the abstract follows with the method, outlining the procedures taken in the study, describing the study design and participants, data collection process and methods of analyzing and presenting the findings (Silva, Miranda, Silva, Rabelo, Almeida & Ponte, 2014). The abstract also presents information on the summary of the results and affirms the conclusion of the article findings. Thus, from this evidence of the layout of the abstract, it presents a structured approach, revealing the relevant information to the readers accordingly. Research Purpose/Problem Statement In the introductory description of the study, the authors present a background of the study accordingly. They reflect on existing concern on the subject of concern, presenting the establishments from these relational past findings. Further, they proceed accordingly to present a justification for their study through identifying the gaps in the existing resources on the topic. Thus, from this observation, the authors evaluate the relevant basis of the study, creating the entire purpose of the study clearly. Additionally, the authors project their study through noting the existing problem, which is the existence of aspects of patient exposure after cardiac surgery (Silva, Miranda, Silva, Rabelo, Almeida & Ponte, 2014). Thus, the purpose of the study, as well as, the problem statement is clear for this article. Moreover, the problem as identified is relevant to nursing as it explores their involvement in the procedures of bathing and renewing of the dressings after the surgery. Research Questions/Hypothesis The authors identify the consequential elements of the topic of study through statement of the problems and purposes accordingly. Thus, from that observation, the problem identification for the article is clear. However, the authors present an objective for the study, which acts their hypothesis. Their hypothesis is non-directional as it is a general statement reflecting the course of the analysis. Thus, from this aspect, the article lacks a concrete thesis. Nonetheless, they pursue the objective of the analysis accordingly. Literature Review/Background The background of the study as presented by the authors in the comparative analysis does not reflect a clearly identifiable literature review. The authors present the literature review section within the introduction, which acts as the background for the study (Silva, Miranda, Silva, Rabelo, Almeida & Ponte, 2014). The study focuses on a comparative approach to analysis of the resources accordingly. However, the background section only presents a limited reflection of the relevant information for the successive reflection of the study. In evaluating the background information, the author reflects on the associated aspects affecting the topic, including factors such as respiratory frequency studies, the factors of ventilation, the surgical procedures and physiological manifestations as they measure to the vital signs. Thus, the background presents relevant and useful information for the course of the study (Polit & Beck, 2014). This elemental aspect of the study allows the authors to proceed with the article analysis successfully. However, in view of updated information, only two of the sources are recent, with about four sources being outside the limit of five years. Thus, the literature is not successfully up to date. Nonetheless, the two that feature within the timeline are from the years 2010 and 2011; thus, they present updated and reliable literature for the study. Variables under study The article features the evaluation of various variables for the course. They define the variables accordingly as they apply to the context of the study. The independent variables feature aspects such as the related aspects of pain measurement, the participant populations and features of physiological changes in the body. The dependent variables entail features such as respiratory rate, the pain intensity and the surgery type. Thus, the approach to the procedural study by Silva et al. (2014) presents the variables in the study accordingly. They reflect positively on the findings of the study. Therefore, observing from these aspects of the article, the study is concretely sustainable with respect to variables’ analysis and description. Ethical Considerations The research approval was by the Research Ethics Committee of the State University of Ceara and Messejana Hospital Dr. Carlos Alberto Gomes Studart. The study also observed all the participants rights as related to confidentiality and anonymity of the responses as precepts in the resolution 196/96 of the National Health Council (Silva, Miranda, Silva, Rabelo, Almeida & Ponte, 2014). The subjects also signed consent form. Thus, from this observation of the article, the authors proceeded in adherence to the ethical considerations as required. The factors of anonymity and consent from participants covered all expectations for the vulnerable groups; thus, it was an ethically responsible study. Theoretical and Conceptual Framework/Conceptual Underpinnings The study uses a theoretical approach to the study as mentioned in the critique called a comparative analysis of the vital signs as the objective of the study (Silva, Miranda, Silva, Rabelo, Almeida & Ponte, 2014). Thus, the study pursued a comparative approach to the study, evaluating variables comparatively (Polit & Beck, 2014). Therefore, the study followed the conceptual framework accordingly. The methodology of approach as selected was applicable and effective in the study course. Conclusion The article authors observed the procedural aspects expected within a comparative analysis of evidence. The success of this article in its findings emanates from the successful setting of the evidence. The background formulates the basis for the success of the study.
