Certified Nurse Midwives (CNMs) are Advance Practice Registered Nurses licensed practitioners educated in the two disciplines of nursing and midwifery. Their main concern is to take care of women patients, who are still in the child bearing age, as well as nursing the patients through prenatal and antenatal care. Most often, the CNM faces a number of issues involving both the ethics and the law (Grant & Ballard, 2011). Nurses face Moral dilemmas in a situation where a patient is found to have multiple partners’ whereas the CNM have a belief based on monogamy.

It also becomes unethical when a patient request for an abortion of a 22 week old fetus based on the grounds of abnormal genetic condition. It should be noted that both the nurse and the patient are protected by nurse practice act (NPA), which explains that the nurse owes the patient a duty of care in regardless of his situation (Simpson & Creehan, 2013).ReferencesSimpson, K. & Creehan, P. (2008). Perinatal nursing. Philadelphia: Wolters Kluwer Health/Lippincott Williams & Wilkins.Grant, P. D.

, & Ballard, D. C. (2011). Law for nurse leaders A comprehensive reference. New York, NY: Springer Publishing Company.
