I have always desired to make a positive impact in my family, community, and society as a whole. Over the years, I have been engaging in activities that I believe enables me to become an important person in society and therefore play a crucial role in transforming people’s lives. I must admit that when I was young I was not certain about how exactly I wanted to have a positive impact in the world. As such, I engaged in various roles while trying to find out where I fit best in the whole spectrum of life. I have realized in recent times that those roles shaped me in a good way and helped me to realize what exactly I want to do in life. Besides, those roles enabled me to acquire variety of skills that will be critical in making sure that I do what I desire with precision and from a point of relevant skills and knowledge. For example, it is through those roles that I developed qualities like excellent communication skills, good interpersonal skills, patience, adaptability, compatibility, and the desire to work hard to achieve my dreams. I believe that these qualities will be fundamental in enabling me to become successful in my area of specialization. So what is my purpose in life? I believe that my purpose in life is to be the best nurse practitioner. In this paper, I will outline how I intend to achieve this. A brief description about me will be critical in giving insights into my inspiration to become a nurse practitioner. I am a mother to a four-year old daughter who means a lot to me. I enjoy spending time with my daughter and husband. I find it very important to contribute positively to people’s lives and thereby to better my community. I am also inspired by the desire to set a great example to my daughter so that she can learn to be a responsible citizen and at the same time learn how to lead a purpose-driven life. I always strive to do the right things in my life. I have been a surgical nurse for the past 13 years and I desire to take my career to a higher notch where I can be able to have greater impact in the society. I hope to get accepted to a nurse practitioner school to acquire more qualification in order to work as a nurse practitioner. My primary career purpose is to make a positive difference in patients’ lives, and particularly to patients who are facing life-threatening diagnosis. I cannot fail to mention that from my past experience I have learnt to connect well with people and especially the patients. I have the ability of forming bonds easily with the patients and this helps me to make patients comfortable and at ease while undergoing treatment. I have critically evaluated the nature of the nurse practitioner professional and am certain that I am equal to task. I am certain that I have the ability and commitment to perform those responsibilities with enthusiasm and professionalism. I understand that the nurse practitioner is allowed to provide a wide range of health care services. The first health care services that nurse practitioners are allowed to provide is taking patient’s history, physically examining the patient, as well as ordering laboratory procedures and tests. The second one is to diagnose, treat and manage diseases. Thirdly, nurse practitioners are allowed to write prescriptions and coordinate referrals. In addition, nurse practitioners are allowed to provide handouts about healthy lifestyles and disease prevention. The final main responsibility of nurse practitioners is to perform specific procedures such as lumbar puncture and bone marrow biopsy. As I seek to lead a purpose-driven life as a nurse practitioner, I am fully aware of the variety of settings that as a nurse practitioner I can work in. these settings include: neonatology, emergency, oncology, women’s health, pediatrics, cardiology, geriatrics, school health, family practice, primary care, and nephrology. I am also aware that I will be sometimes required to work in clinics in the absence of doctors’ supervision, while at other instances I will be required to work together in a joint health care team. More Importantly, I understand that I will be required to work within the authority and scope of state and federal laws. I sincerely find working as a nurse practitioner will be a fulfilling career that will enable me to fulfill my desire in life which is to make positive difference in people’s lives. While working as a nurse practitioner I will be guided by the core philosophy of the profession which is to provide individualized care which focuses on the conditions of the patients and the effects that specific diseases have on the patients’ lives and that of their families. As such, I will make patient education, wellness, as well as prevention of illnesses my utmost priorities. In order to play a critical role in health sector, I will also put additional efforts in conducting research and being active in patient advocacy responsibilities. While am determined to succeed as a nurse practitioner, I am fully aware of some of the other important problems that I will face and I will have to address while working in the health care. Studies have shown that many health organizations face the problem of numerous changes that affect their functioning. Some of these changes do not have any important impact on the provision of core health services and only serve to disrupt provision of core health services. I will find ways of addressing introduction of unnecessary changes in health care. Also, many health care organizations face the problem of cuts in reimbursements and which significantly affect provision of health care services. I will work closely with management of the organization I work for to find ways of addressing this challenge. I am also aware that health care organizations face the challenge of patients who are either underinsured or are insured; this problem compromise provision of quality health care services to them. I will work with the management to find long-lasting solutions to these problems and ensure that quality healthcare services to the patients are of utmost priority. I have no misgivings that the above information have pointed out how prepared I am to lead a purpose-driven life.
