Engaging in scholarships and service affiliation Engaging in scholarships and service Scholarships and services are regarded the best achievement a nurse educator can have. The two factors not only enhance the capabilities of a nurse educator but also provide them with opportunities to give back to society and their institution of practice. Scholarships and services require a lot of devotion and goodwill which make them important to the profession of nurse educators. In words by Fisher & Riley (2005) services and scholarships by nurse educators show how much impact the profession has on their lives and their line of duty.
Over the years nurse educators have gifted the medical field with a lot of services and scholarships which have remained significant to date. For my case a nurse educator I have engaged in several services. Firstly, I volunteered to work at a nursing home/ rehabilitation center. This facility gave me an opportunity to gain experience from both a nursing home and rehabilitation center. Additionally, I was able to apply my expertise and help the medical facility. I engaged with instructors who ensured I fulfilled my expectations at the center.
At the end of this activity I had to present my experience to the committee at the facility. I was given an opportunity to practice at the facility as a nurse educator. While at the institution I engaged in some scholarly activities. I had the opportunity to have a deeper learning on the treatment and the diagnosis of congestive heart failure and ventilation pneumonia. I used the experience to write lecture notes for my students and written evidence on the medication of the two diseases. Additionally, I came up with one article touching on congestive heart failure and another addressing the issue on ventilator pneumonia.
From the two articles I crafted a medical journal with the aim of establishing protocol, measurement, treatment and prevention of congestive heart failure and ventilator pneumonia. With the help of other instructors at the institution, we came up with new strategies of suppressing the effects of congestive heart failure. We developed requirements for nurses who focused their services on treating the disease. We also conducted training and teaching session in the institution addressing the issues on treatment and diagnosis of congestive heart failure and ventilator pneumonia.
I then developed a conference presentation of the above activities which I had to present to the administration at the institution. The administration had high regards on the presentation and granted me an excellent recommendation letter. For the service I engaged in, the recipients were the nursing students in the institution I attended and the institution itself. The volunteering activity qualifies to be a service in that I applied my scholarly experience to help the organization in formulating procedures to educate their nursing students (Stull & Lantz, 2005).
In an indirect from the community gained from my services as the expertise I passed on to the nurses at the institution benefited the community in the terms of provision of quality healthcare. In an argument by Pape (2000) any activity benefiting a health institution and the community around it, is qualified to be referred to as a service. For my scholarship activities, they can both be classified as scholarship of application and interdisciplinary scholarships. For support on the scholarship of application, I had a major role in the transforming the strategy used for the process of medical application to congestive heart failure patients.
Apart from my presence in the team my expertise impacted significantly in making the project successful at all stages. For interdisciplinary scholarship, I was part of the team that help come up with a staff with a high efficiency on treating patients with congestive heart failure and ventilation pneumonia. For the above projects they are completed and have recommendation letters on both the services and scholarships activities. Apart from the volunteering activities I ventured in at the nursing home, I have an overall goal of working professionally as a nurse educator.
The completion of this project will require a renowned health institution with a large number of nursing staff. Additionally, I would like to complete a project on publishing scholarly books. The scholarly books would address major issues facing the nurse educator career. I would also be a pleasure if I land an educator position a world health body. References Fisher, M. & Riley, A.
